One word: Ignorance.
When we chose to glorify things without knowing their origin, take for granted a quality education, believe in nothing and fall for anything.......It was taught to the parents the importance of respect for your elders, so they don't know how to teach it to their children.

I agree with Lana B. I don't know of any parent who encourages their child to use profanity, and that I would be against 100%. However, when a child that is like 2 or 3 years old says a bad word it is funny because 1) You're not expecting it, 2) They can barely or have just begun to pronounce their words and they have the nerve to try to say a cussword, and 3) The WAY they say it is funny. I mean if they say it a certain way it is funny.

The first couple of times my sweet baby boy said a bad word, I did laugh. Not in encouragement, just because it was funny to hear this horrid word coming from my angels voice....
He had NO idea what it meant and wouldn't say it now (he's five) but at the time it was funny.

I think for the most part the blame is on the parents. Parents should monitor what their children are watching on tv and movies, and what they're listening to for music, and also playing for video games. Depending on if the children are older and in school, you could put some blame on friends, and the fact that the kids won't feel included if they don't use the same language as their peers. But, I think the blame mainly is on the parents and how they choose to teach their kids about correct language.

When my son says fish it sounds like 'sh*t.' Do we go around telling him to say sh*t? No. We correct him when he does say fish. I have no clue why parents think it's cute or funny when their kids swear purposely. I think it's sick personally. I think it's stupid to swear--adults too. What's the point? Is there not a better way to convey your feelings?
Anyway, I'm sorry your son's father is doing this. Have you tried talking to him? I'm sure you have but just make sure your son knows when he's with you that doesn't fly.
Good Question!

I don't know why they do it either someone posted a question about this same subject only she was saying that she was one of those parents who let her child say those things. And I couldn't believe how many people agreed with her and said it is not a big deal. We should be teaching our children manners and how to be polite and nice to each other, not allowing them to be "little adults" and talk with a dirty mouth. No wonder so many kids have np boundaries, their parents never gave them any.

I agree with you! Parents who allow their kids to swear certainly aren't doing them any favors, because chances are, these children will get into major trouble if they swear at the wrong place and time (e.g. school). Not only that, but it shows that the parents aren't teaching their children to respect others!

Swearing get the mouth washed out. Some people have no idea what is proper and what is respectful. It is a reflection on a society where there are no values or morals.

this drives me absolutely bonkers! My daughter picked up the b*tch word somewhere. neither my husband or myself curse around her but when she does say it my husband laughs and reinforces the behavior. We have argued about that many time.
Its not funny or cute to hear those dirty words coming out of a child's mouth!

Because they are immature themselves and use their children in order to show off - I smacked for swearing and that soon put a stop to it and no matter "but the other boys say it"!
