You only get insulted because you allow it. Don't let what people think and say effect you that way.

When I look up the word religion, I get these definitions:
1. concerned with matters of, or related to the church
2. having or showing belief in a deity
3. of or relating to monastic vows
4. extremely scrupulous and conscientious
Now where did say that religion is belief in God, although deity can be the ultimate Deity, or the God of creation.
Spirituality has the following definitions:
1. concerned with things of the spirit
2. property or income owned by the church! Betcha didn't know that one
Spiritualism is:
1. any doctrine that asserts the separate existence of God
2. the belief that the spirit of dead people can communicate with those who are alive
concerned with things of the spirit
I personally am not insulted when people bash me with religious labels and the like. I shrug and say to myself that they don't know, and they don't. If they did know, they wouldn't bash. Labeling yourself as spiritual is not much better than religious in terms of the dictionary, but because the negative connotations of spiritual seems nice, we like it because it doesn't offend our sensitivities. But atheist's are right, being spiritual does mean one is religious. They score, but this score isn't such a big deal. We who love God know we love God and I am not destabilized because of some lambasting me with labels. Remember that old saying: Stick and stones may break my bones, but names and faces will never hurt me--and many here and in the world like to act like this is fourth grade. I just smile and shrug my shoulders.

In general, or here on R&S? Whenever I ask a question that I think I've worded neutrally, the atheists think I'm a fundamentalist, and the Christians think I'm an atheist; each insults me accordingly.
I definitely feel you as far as here--but in the "real world" I don't share my beliefs with anyone except 1 or 2 very close friends.

Would you like some cheese with that whine?
Get thee to a dictionary.
If you believe in god, then you are 'religious'... by definition. You might be LESS religious than others... there are varying degrees of 'religiosity'... but you are 'religious'. none-the-less.
Feeling 'insulted' by that REALLY comes down to being insulted by the dictionary... by the fact that the word does not mean what you would LIKE it to mean.
It would probably be a good idea to get over that.

You need to specify. Say you believe in A god, not GOD. Somehow christians cornered the market on the word god. Kinda like that singer, Madonna.

I think if you look up 'religious' in a dictionary you'll find that belief in god fits pretty comfortably within the definition.

No, I don't feel insulted at all. I might not think as much of the person in question if they make assumptions about things, though.
