not precisely accurate.

while it is true that during Boot Camp and A school you are not allowed to pursue a college education, once you hit the Fleet, you can..within reason. everybody Mess cranks when they first arrive at their ship.. anywhere from 30-90 days max. then they go to their work space and get Qual'd on their gear. that should NOT take more than a couple of months, ever. After that, operational commitment takes precedence. if you are deploying, you have less opportunity. But it is very possible to get a2 year degree in your first term of enlistment, so long as your prioritize properly and are prepared to work hard.

Everyone in ALL services does housework. It's part of the job.
As for training, get all that in writing in your contract. They cannot recant that without your permission, so if you sign up with the written agreement for a certain school, the Navy is obligated to send you to that school.

For further training, the Navy is training crazy. The push advancement and rates so you would have much training along with the opportunity to attend college classes while in service.

Not true, if you have an MOS when you go in no problem, but I never had that problem during my four years of service. Your friend must have not wanted it bad enough, because I would have never done that stuff for 2 years. It can be done, you really have to want it though.

the army is the only branch of service that guarantees you your specfic mos but that is with stipulations too. alot depends on your score on the asvab and whether or not you show aptitude for your choosen mos, you can't choose medical if you faint at the sight of blood or aren't good at biology. so yeah they can have you scrubbing decks for 2 years if they want but face it, it does the navy no good to put you where they can't use you. and its untrue about school there are lots of opportunities for going to school in the navy, why not go to their website, do alot of research on joining though and read blogs and articles on them before you sign on the dotted line. because if the navy is like the army you aren't signing up for 2 or 3 years...read the contract carefully...you're signing up for 8. whatever you agree to like 3 years is what you serve actively, the rest, 5 yrs is reserve and you can be called up at any time. thats whats happening now reserves are being called up even if they have been away for years because they need soldiers.

Only idiots who dont have half a brain to start with have to scubs deck and clean shitter for 2 years before the NAVY alows them to soak up US tax dollars getting trained on something they will either forget or screw up 6 months down the road.

That isn't true at all. You go to school first. Then you join the fleet.

Unless you join without getting a job and go undesignated. then you do chip paint for the first two years until you get a job.
