I personally have nothing against any religion. However there are some very dangerous activities.
The biggest threat to us all is the rise of fundamentalism. This in itself is no danger, there has been many wacky beliefs in the past. However, it is the belief that goes with it that is so dangerous. That belief is that they have the right to force us all to believe their nonsense.
This is now being played out in the world in the form of the Talaban and co and the infiltration of Fundy Christians into the education system to brainwash children into rejecting rational and researched information.
Read around the R&S, the science and the Philosophy categories, you will see them. time and time again trying to put science and philosophy as 'just another religion'.

Why do Christians put so much energy into demeaning non-Christians and patting themselves on the back for having chosen to be Christians?
Why do Christians spend so much time deciding who will go to heaven and who will go to hell, when not one person has ever gone to either place and returned with verifiable evidence as to the architecture and population demographics of either place?
I really think that Christians are the anti-Christ.

Every religion has an obligation I suppose to tell others about what they are missing if they have different belielfs. People who are very strong in their beliefs tend to shove their religion down people's throats to get their points across. They don't realize that they eventually just pushed them farther away. I am a Christian and would just bring up how I feel on something and why, then let them think about it for themselves.

I don't really see how challenging someone is equivalent to demeaning them. If you can't answer, that's not the same thing as being demeaned. If you can't respond to their charges, then maybe you need to figure out what to do other than just spouting "you're going to hell" over and over, because they don't believe in it in the first place, so it's not a threat - you just end up looking a little silly. If you don't know WHY you believe what you believe, it's time to figure it out.

A believer has to overcome ridicules or challenges by trust in God.It may come from anybody not from atheists alone.Real trust of defence is put in God and God's Wisdom is revealed through good character nothing will deter one from his pursuit.

Reason of the first: they enjoy poking fun at things they don't believe in (same goes for various believers too)
Reason of the second. the various believers rise to the bait.
Reason of the third: (this one is just my belief, not really based on any fact beyond conjecture) the demeaning is an attempt to delude themselves into beliving that their attempts to make believers 'see how silly the whole religion thing is' is not an attempt to convert them to the athiest religious belief system. Because they feel athiesism is not a religious belief.
Reason of the fourth: I'm sure there's more

If you are going to engage in it then you are just as guilty as the other side and every bashing you have on them bashing you, you need to just turn around and put those criticisms on yourself.
I have some answers for people that claim they have the right to do it because someone else is doing it
try
back to you and more of it

We get the bottom of the barrel bashes and trolls here, not the mature atheists, who for obvious reasons do not hang out in this section. Most of our bashers and trolls aren't over 15 years old, so you need to consider the source before getting upset with them. Kids like attention and this is how these type of people try to get it. Just try to ignore them.
For an example, look at Dreamstuff Entity's answer, absolutely no grounds for what this person says, but they don't feel the need to be honest of make any sense.

because it is alienating to be an atheist. everyone around you sees into a spiritual bliss that seems irrational, primitive, and archaic. spiritual bliss until you are told you are going to burn for thousands of years because of your unwillingness to commit the ultimate sin and lie about the prospects of believing something so disdainfully written. then you see truer colors, judgement and condemnation which is 95% of the christian experience when you are not in the "praise J.C. club."
who is jesus to you? why should i care, why should you care who jesus is to me?
right because you care about my soul?
who are you to determine the condemnatory path of my soul? is that not for me to decide?
as christians atheists are not standing on the streets demeaning and screaming at you. you have to come to one of few forums for atheism. the internet, the written word where ideas are exchanges, atheists are often big on ideas.
as children jesus and the lord are presented to us in such a way that demonizes deity and radicalizes the sensibilities. atheist's do not do that to christians.
when atheists come to your doorstep asking for money or your soul, then we'll talk.
