Or does it ony matter because they think they are forgiven. I do not see any moral difference at all between religious people and atheists I know.

this is amazing to me. It seems both Christians and atheists agree that there is little difference in the rate of sin. Then why is it that Christians always argue that religion gives them their morals and values? Who cares if they are just the same as the nonreligious in their behavior?

I don't equate sin with morality.

Sin is a religious concept. Some people believe that premarital sex is a sin, for instance, or mixing two types of clothing (as in the old testament - punishable by death).

Morality is about living with other people by using logic and reason to define acceptable behavior. It's generally more open-ended and compatible with modern society.

I consider myself a moral person, though I don't believe in the concepts of sin. I've seen Christians who are splendid regardless, but I also see many whom engage in behaviors supposedly forbidden by their faith (drinking, sex outside of marriage, etc). It can go both ways.

I don't play by the rules of what is supposedly banned in the bible. I'm not religious, and I will read books espousing any position, without an attempt to be "not of this world," as some of the devout phrase it. But as for morality, I do not kill or harm others, I do not force my views onto anyone else, and I support complete freedom and tolerance under government, regardless of a person's race or religion. As for social issues, I've been celibate for three years and I never drink. But that's not religious -- it's personal. At the end of the day, I'm responsible for my actions. There is no way to rewrite a mistake.

The religious concept of "sin" is, at its heart, inclusive of what are essentially immoral and unethical behaviours.

Christianity is a religion based on the worship of Jesus the son of Joseph as the messiah/kristos (annointed one) and the attempt to follow his teachings. Atheism is the belief that there is no god or the absence of a belief in a god. Atheism is not, as some Christians would have you believe, the absence of ethics or morality. Conversely, self-identifying oneself as a Christian does not, as some Christians would like you to believe, indicate the actual presence of ethics and morality.

You are absolutely correct in not seeing any moral difference between self-professed Christians and those who self-identify as atheists. I have met atheists who exhibit all of the so-called Christian virtues - without having been directly exposed to Christian dogma and while wholeheartedly disbelieving in G-d. I have also known bible toting, WWJD t-shirt wearing Christians who were revealed to be the most vile and deceitful people I ever met.

Ethical and moral people are ethical and moral because that's who they were taught to be and that's who they were raised to be. Everything else is just seasoning.

Christians would sin like various different individual in the event that they do no longer embody the flexibility that God has given them to overcome sin. With the abundance of God's grace and the present of righteousness in them Christians can reign in existence (ie conquer sin) (Rom 5:17). Christians prefer no longer be ruled by skill of sin through fact they below grace and not below the regulation (Rom6:14). Christians won't sin whilst they stay interior the dominion of sunshine that God has positioned them in. (a million John a million:7). If Christians stroll interior the Spirit they gained't fulfil the lust of the flesh (Gal 5:sixteen). particular Christians can sin like various different concern-loose individual in the event that they do no longer use their God-given powers and advantages. I pray that each and every person Christians gets up and shine for the attention of God is risen upon them.

Atheists can't "sin" since that was created under religion/religious terms and beliefs. I wouldn't nor couldn't say or believe christians sin because I simply do not believe in that type of thing. I believe in right and wrong which can be personal or social kind of thing.

Atheists NEVER "sin", because the very idea of sin is an artificial set of rules imposed on "believers"....

Think about it, according to the bible (and the 10 Commandments), covetousness is as great a sin as murder or adultery. There are no Christians who do not "covet", or they would all be living in caves wearing sack-cloth eating gruel!

Maybe the reason you don't see any moral difference is that you don't share the same moral standards as Christians. You might see atheists doing certain things that you think are fine, whereas a Christian might say they're sinful.

I think Christians probably sin less, in general, because they are at least trying to avoid sin. Whereas atheists have no concept of sin at all, thus no pressing need to try to avoid it.

This does NOT mean that Christians are better, or less inclined to sin. I just mean that Christians are more likely to *try* to fight the inclination to sin, pray to ask God's help to resist temptation, etc.

That would be for God to judge.

I can only say personally, that after becoming a Christian and learning God's Word, that it keeps me on my toes to guard against anything that would be displeasing to God. Sometimes I do good, sometimes I fail. But I keep walking towards the mark of that high calling because God is my refuge and my strength. While in the world, I will always come against temptation, but I don't have to live there anymore.

An Atheist marches to the beat of a different drummer, so I can't speak for them.

I am atheist. And do you know many frie'nds who are religious have said, "It's better to ask for forgiveness, then beg for permission" I do think that religious people think it's okay to quote on quote "sin". Look how many child rapist and murderers go to jail, and think that they can ask god to forgive them for all they did and it's magically okay. Here's my question.......Where's the line? Whats the point of all the rules the bible states if all you got to do is say sorry and it doesn't matter? Is everything acceptable as long as you say sorry?

Not for the 'sins' that are also against the law, apparently. The breakdown of the prison population shows that Christians are rather excessively naughty.
