That's a good one, but it depends on what state you are in. Can't do that in Delaware or New Jersey.

They are selling beer as a convenience and nothing more.

You are supposed to wait until you get home/your destination before opening it. Having it in your car and un opened is perfectly legal. I used to do a lot of car travel and I would often gas up and buy beer and then drink it when I got inside my Motel. I did NOT drink and drive. It was just quick and easy and often times the beer was on sale too. I was tired it was late and I did not feel like driving all over town in a town I did not know trying to find a liquor store that was open.

There is once scenario that makes me wonder. What about a gas station in the boonies that sells beer? I once saw a gas station that was MILES from ANYTHING selling beer. Hmmmm

Yes attitudes have really changed! In old school movies people used to drive around drinking out of a flask. lol

I don't see why there should be anything wrong with it. Selling beer at a gas station doesn't imply it's OK to drink it while you're driving, any more than selling maps in a gas station implies it's safe to read while your driving. We still have this odd concept in America that other people are actually not responsible for your own bad choices.

There is nothing at the gas station that says you have to drink the beer while you are driving.

The gas station also sells condoms. Do you believe that is a reason to use them while driving?

Just because they sell beer at gas stations doesn't mean that you have to drink it after gasing up. Your question would be much more valid if you would have said "Why do they tell you not to drink and drive but sell beer at drive-thru beer distributors." Just kidding.

This is a trick question, right?

They sell beer at the gas station so you can take it home and drink it.

They want you to take the beer HOME and drink it. Like anybody does that. Remember, don't drink and drive
You might hit a bump and spill your drink. But attitudes about drinking and driving have changed. In the 1950's a Caddillac called an Eldorado Brougham came with Shot glasses in the glove compartment, so you could drive and have a drink.

they sell gas at the gas station because it is business. it is your choice on whether or not you want to buy it. They won't get arrested for selling beer but you will get arrested for drink and drive. once you buy the beer, it is your problem not theirs

Haha that makes more sense than the drive through Daiquiri place we have in my town....oh and you can also order up a 30 Oz whiskey and coke with as many shots as you want too....of course they seal the nondescript styrofoam cup (with straw provided) in a heat sealed plastic baggie. Sorry Ossifer, the straw just ripped open the plastic bag and fell into my mouth!
