I haven't gotten him a toodler bed yet, but he just looks to big for it. I was gonna wait til he's 3. he will be 3 in 2 months. It's not a big deal I guess if I get him the bed now. What should I do?

It's not a big deal. If he seems interested in a bigger bed, then the time is right.

It is not bad. But, if you are thinking about moving him to a big-boy bed, there is no reason to wait. 3 is not a magical age where it will suddenly be easier, so you might as well get started. You don't have to get him a toddler bed either. You can start with a twin mattress if you want. The most important part is that he can get in and out of bed by himself and that his room is 100% child-proof.

On a personal level, I have a 16 month old who is giant sized - 35 inches tall. We had to move him to a toddler bed because he was able to swing his leg over the rail of the crib, he could not climb out yet, but he was getting close. We elected to go for the toddler bed because he is so young. I can tell you that we had great success with it. He loves his bed, he rarely gets out at night, but when he does, and he comes and knocks on the door (from the inside of his 100% childproof room), I go to the door and tell him it is time to sleep, kiss him again and tell him I love him. After a few nights of practice, he now returns to the bed and climbs back in on his own. I also keep his baby monitor on just because he is so young so that I can kind of keep an ear out for any signs of trouble.

Good luck!!

You don't need a toddler bed. Just buy a twin or full mattress for now, depending on your space in the room, and leave it on the floor for a year or so, then buy a nice bed for his 4th birthday! Having a 3 year old in a crib is not bad if he is happy what is the difference? Mine were in the crib til 2 1/2.

I moved my daughters to toddler beds at about 12m. They all did great with them. I just made sure their bedroom had a baby gate on the door and their room was baby proofed. I bet your son is ready to try a big boy bed.

At his age you might just try getting him a twin size bed and let him nap in it to start. So he can get used to it before trying overnights. If hes big for the crib, a toddler bed is the same size as the crib but without the sidewalls.

Leave him in his crib until you get a twin bed or move him into be w/a sib. My oldest was in her crib forever. Then the second 'til age 3 and now she sleeps w/her older sister. My 2.5 son is in the crib. A toddler bed is a waste of money.

I'm a mother of 4 and if your toddler can jump out of the crib easily then it's time to convert to a toddler size bed. there's plenty of toddler/big kid beds that can fit a crib size mattress.

If you wanna make the change easy for you or him or her, you should purchase a race car/princess toddler bed. if the price is what your concerned about. try looking around there's plenty of nice clean children second hand stores. you'll save money by keeping the crib mattress but buying the frame.

I don't think it is bad at all.
My 22 mth old is still in a crib and will be until she shows signs of trying to crawl out or if she becomes potty trained in the next year. Right now when she wakes up from her nap, she is very content to play with her stuffed animals (all 5 of them!) until we get her. In the morning I usually have to wake her to get ready for the babysitter so no chance of her crawling out then!

We have a crib that converts to a day bed and then to a full-size bed. We aren't going to do the daybed until one of the above scenarios happens.

She is a VERY active toddler and this way she has to stay in bed and falls asleep within minutes after lying her in there. I think that right now with a toddler bed she would be up "reading" her books right after I put her to bed!

I'm still waiting for the day she falls asleep while playing with toys, eating, etc.

It's only bad if he's heavy enough that he might damage it and make splinters, or if he's climbing out of it in a way that he might fall and hurt himself.

At this age I wouldn't bother with a toddler bed, just go right to an ordinary one with a bed rail so he doesn't fall out.

Not bad, but it sounds cramped. He should be into a single bed by now. Have him go out with you to pick out his new big boy bed and get him excited for it!
