Hamper basket for the bride and groom after they get back from their honeymoon (or even to take with them) put in bottle of wine and champagne, chocolates, biscuits, fruit (if it won't spoil), crackers and cheese and basically anything they can feed each other. It shouldn't cost you more than $50.

As mentioned in another answer, picture frames are a lovely option. In addition or as a separate gift, you could provide candid photos from the reception, some of the pre-wedding events or perhaps some fun time together with the couple and friends. Enlarging the best one or two to a 5 x 7 or 8 x 10 won't cost much and will be appreciated.
This is the time to celebrate how very happy they are, photos will remind them of their beginning.

Check where the couple is registered at and see if there is anything inexpensive on their list. Typically, the couple will register for gifts in a wide price range. Or, as others have suggested, get a gift certificate at the registered store. Other great stores include Williams-Sonoma, Target, Macys.

If they have nice invitations maybe you could find a really nice frame and put their invitation in it. Someone did this for my daughters wedding and it she actually put some dried flowers in the frame and it was very pretty. My daughter does have it displayed. Otherwise see if they have a registry with a list of lower priced gifts.

A picnic basket! It is my standard wedding gift and the couples always rave about how cute it is.

If they registered, go look at it and find something in your price range. They want everything that they put on it, so any of it would work. If they didn't, a gift card for $20.00 always comes in handy.
