I've never seen an atheist willing to do that for their belief, so maybe they aren't so sure after all.

I very much agree with you, but there are alot of people that really believe that it happened. They are willing to die and kill for that belief, which makes it very dangerous.

Look at North Korea.
There they are taught that their leader is God. That he made the movie, "Sound of Music", and that by his glory alone they will eat, have sight (many are blind 'cause of malnurishment), and their way of living.
Since this is the reality in N. Korea, they will die for their leader if he chooses them to die for him; be it in war or from starvation.

I don't know of anyone who is willing to die given that perspective, but people are quite willing to die for their delusions. If they really believe it, it makes perfect sense. What DOESN'T make sense is the fact that people really believe that nonsense.

A lot of other religions had martyrs besides Christianity.
Whether or not their actions made sense really doesn't matter. People do a lot of things that don't make sense.
