my question is WHY WHY WHY WHY AND WHY do you believe in the big bang theory?
DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT GIVE CRAP like i believe in it because it is the best theory we have to explain the universe?
TELL ME WHY YOU BELIEVE IN THE BIG BANG THEORY tell me the evidence for your beliefs.
BTW if you say or believe that the universe is going to collapse on itself you are dead, you are ignorant.
Resent evidence shows that the universe WILL not collapse on itself, it will expand forever.
And please do not say anything about religion like “SCIENCE IS BETTER THAN RELIGION BECAUSE WE CAN EXPLAIN THE INEXPLICABLE"
I ALREADY KNOW THAT ****, I WANT TO KNOW WHY WHY WHY YOU BELIEVE IN THE BIG BANG THEORY (EVIDENCE).
And lastly, I do not what to hear the answer “I TRUST THOSE SCIENTIST WHO CAME UP WITH THE THEORY” yeah I do trust them as well but at least I have to evaluate the evidence!
My point is: most atheist believe what scientist tell them to believe, to me there I no diffe

There are three main pieces of evidence, and I've seen them all for myself in astronomy classes. You can observe the first one on a TV, the second on a telescope, and the third with a telescope and a little knowledge of the physics of light.
1. Cosmic Background Radiation (In fact, you can see this on a TV screen if it's not tuned to a channel. That's why there's all that "noise"_
2. Red Shift of Galaxies: Take a telescope and point it at a random galaxy. If you observe wavelength of the light using the doppler method, you'll discover that every galaxy is moving away from us.
3. The abundance of Hydrogen and Helium in our universe. This suggests a rapid spatial expansion that prevented heavier elements from forming during the Big Bang (heavier elements formed in stars.)
I don't believe in it because "people tell me to." I believe in it because the evidence supporting the theory is widely available to anybody who chooses to search for it.

Being an Atheist has nothing to do with believing the in Big Bang Theory. Being an Atheist involves not believing in god. Ask that question and you'll get answers.
I've noticed that you ask a question and immediately limit the scope of permissable answers to eliminate nearly all possibilities. Don't ask a question and then tell people how they are not allowed to answer. Do you want an answer, or do you just want to be a dick?
To sort of answer the question (now that so many possiblities have been taken off the table): I don't completely believe in the Big Bang Theory. I don't know the origin of the universe. I think that the theories put forth by scientists is so far better than the theories put forth by religious fundamentalists.

Since I have actually taken Graduate level General Relativity and Cosmology courses I can tell you.
1. The only reasonable explanation for the red shift is that the universe is expanding. Other explainations such as tired light simply don't work for various reasons.
2. General Relativity is very well tested and the Big Bang Theory is a solution to General Relativity. Unlike others on here I have actually gone through the mathematical derivation.
3. The COBE data is fully consistent with the Inflationary Big Bang Model.
4. The ratios of hydrogen and helium are fully consistent with the inflationary Big Bang Model.
If you have any other questions just ask.

how could there ever be a big bang. it is not possible. think of this go back b4 there was only space.was there a big bang that created the space if you have nothing to put together to create this bang how does it happen. my guess is that a higher power did this. you cant create something out of nothing. if you really belive in this theory how about you blow up your house and car you will get a limo and a mansion out the deal right. i dare you to do it. but the main reason why ppl believe this theory is because by beliving in god they would have to except the fact that they are sinners and are gonna burn in hell for eternity.these ppl dont believe they are bad and good works gets you to heaven even though it says repeatedly it doesn't

who says I believe in the big bang
believing in the big bang is not the reason I'm an atheist the complete lack of evidence for a god is
if you were in anyway genuinely interested in evidence for the big bang you'd ask your question (nicely) in a the science section.
that you ask it in R & S shows what a coward you are

I absolutely cannot beleive YOU, a stupid religious bullshitter are accusing someone else of giving indirect answers, anytime I look at a question about religion, the religious people NEVER answer the question, they just spout garbage from the bible, and why not beleive in the big bang theory? It's a fact, unlike your religion, the evidence for my beleife is that every expert in the universe knows it happened, unlike your crappy , baseless religion.

Reported for obscenity. And if you REALLY WANT TO KNOW, why don't you ask this question in the Astronomy & Space section? Why are you asking atheists who for the most part are not scientists? If you wanted to know something about botany, would you ask a Christian or would you ask a botanist?

Have you read Super String theory and understood the math? The answer is simple, the math fits the facts and explains the current reality. A deity does not match the facts and doesn't explain anything.

But to answer your question, we know that the Big Bang happened because:
1.) There's a little bit of residual radiation from the original explosion, out in the vacuum of space, and
2.) We can observe the universe is expanding.
