The least expensive in the pump shotgun category would be the Maverick series made by Mossberg. They sell at places like Academy Sporting Goods for about $150. The Remintom 870 Express sells for about $ 225. The Remington has been around since 1950 and is super reliable. This is what I would recommend.

Well, the gauge isnt what makes the price, its the gun maker. Remington makes a 870 Express for about $270 or maybe a little less and Mossberg makes a 500 for aorund $250 maybe less, both are pump shotguns. You can get a single shot for about $125 made by New England Arms too. You cant ask for much cheaper than that.

For deer hunting you will want a 12 ga. There are some manufacturers who make single shot shotguns that are pretty inexpensive. Look thought some gun catalogs and see what you can find or go to some of the local outdoor stores and ask some questions. They might even have some single shot shotguns on hand for you to look at. Some stores even take trade-ins so they might have a great deal on a single shot shotgun or maybe even a pump shotgun such a Winchester or Mossberg.

Check out the NEF (New England Firearms) Partner series Single Shot Shotgun..Inexpensive, great shotgun for a beginner or new hunter. I think they are for sale at Wal-mart or any number of local Gun Shops/Dealers

I second JD and John on their suggestion of the NEF/H&R 1871 Pardner single-shot shotguns, and the Mossberg M-500.
