Listerine has a heck of a lot of alcohol in it. If it burns the tissue, watering it down is fine. Actually, you are not making your mouth any healthier by using mouthwash anyway. Yeah, it kills bugs, but are they the bugs that are causing problems? Each persons bug load is different.

Secondly, mouthwash is not going to get rid of the biofilm where gingivitis bugs live. Mechanical debriedment is where its at (that is, thorough brushing and floss)
