My best friend is a Hung Ga practitioner. The five animals don't include monkey.

You need to contact this guy and ask him for his lineage.

If he claims to teach Chinese MA, then he should have a lineage that comes directly from an original source... China... from a traceable Founder.

Not like that Shaolin-Do Chop Suey Crap.

If he tells you that he learned this and that and he also met this person but his master is that person,,, well, turn and run. A traditional school has forms that teach the combat strategy of the art.

I had a conversation with a guy who told me he studied XYZ art. This happens to be my art! So I asked him what forms he knew. He said that they don't do forms, just fighting.

This doesn't make sense. Because you cannot say you study a particular art but you don't do the forms of the art. The art is the forms. Yeah, I know people here will say that you concept is what's important. The problem with that is that the concept is in the forms. The forms are the DNA of the arts. They dictate the mechanics of how that art is applied.

Back to your question, if he can't prove his lineage, then all he is doing is teaching some made-up garbage.

Specially if he says he teaches Chinese MA. Which he actually doesn't. He says he teaches "kung fu". That's not an art. If you are good at cooking, they say that your kung fu in cooking is good.

I would not waste the energy or time or money.
