They pluck my nerves in a big way with their driving. I do feel bad, I realize they need to go places, too. But, there should be free taxis for old people or something.

It's funny you mentioned this. A while back I saw a program on television that showed elderly people driving. It was pretty scary....driving on the wrong side of the road, driving in the wrong direction, driving in the middle of 2 lanes, etc. Now, I'm not saying all elderly people are like this but a lot are. I think they should have an eye test, hearing test, reflex test, and a driving test to see if they can still drive. The test should be given every year. I think a lot of them are just plain stubborn and don't want to admit they just aren't capable of driving anymore.

When I get old and I am now 53, I will gladly take the free taxi ride at the expense of you, the younger generation. The OLDER working generation is at this very moment keeping most of YOU, the younger generation up. Our tax dollars are providing you with a welfare check, medical card, paid gas trips to the DR. and so forth, whereas the OLDER Generation is having a difficult time paying their bills, buying their medicine and so forth. I do agree a lot of the older people do not need to drive and I do agree they should be tested every 2 years to renew their license, but YOU the younger should be retested also. What is fair for the goose is fair for the gander. And as said Before I WILL TAKE THAT FREE TAXI RIDE WHEN I GET OLD, SHOPPING HERE I COME!!!!!! oh by the way my Dad gave me the keys to his car when he turned 75 even though he was still an excellent driver, and I drove him around for the next 20 years and loved every minute of it. I was his FREE TAXI. Would you do that for your parents??

If you are willing to be the free taxi, I would be happy for you to give me the free ride.

This is provided you do not drive like the reckless fools below age 80 who don't care who lives or dies.

You might have better luck lobbying state government to have different lanes of traffic

... this lane is for the reckless fools who could care less about the speed limits, street signs etc. & this other lane for we old folks, who want to live forever.

Example ... I stop at every stop sign ... full stop.
I stop at every red light ... full stop.

There are youngsters who damn near crash into me when I do so, they give me the finger, honk the horn, scream at me, because in their eyes, I signalled that I was slowing down, then I came to a full stop, and they were not paying attention to where they were going because on cell phoen etc, & damnear crashed into me, so they real mad that I plucked their nerves ... then we go another block, come to another stop sign, and I do it again, I stop, look to make sure the traffic is clear, and move on ... and every time I stop, these kids in the car behind me get madder and madder.

I do see where you're coming from. A lot of "old people" on the road are a little....out of it to say the least.

Maybe it could be something like after the age of 60 you have to get a test to say if you can still drive or if you need someone to drive you around.

Lol but I'm just a student in 7th hour so idk.

good luck with those old people on the road hun!

Well you cant just say old people. because some can still drive better that some much younger "kids".
But there should be a proficiency test that everyone should have to take periodical.
My wife's grandfather would drive, at 85, he had no business on the road. He didn't live near us so it was hard for us to get involved with getting him off the road.

Actually I would support a law that removed "young" people from the road. They are always in too much of a hurry and totally inattentive to their driving. They totally disregard speed limits and the physical limits of what they drive because they were all trained on video games.
However I will take that free taxi ride!

I believe that all drivers should get retested every few years. I drive a lot for work and you wouldn't believe the idiots on the road. All ages, from 18 to 85. If the DMV mandated retesting we could get some of the idiots of the road.

I have seen too many "old" people who should NOT be on the hiways driving. My own mother was one. I think there be some tests given to the elderly to test their driving capabilities. This is one subject that I am very opinionated on. lol

The insurance companies all charge higher rates for teens.

Who do you suppose they think are the worst drivers?

Teens have the best reaction time, but the poorest judgment skills.

Take it easy, and you might live long enough to get old.

My dad's 75 and he's still a great driver. You'd probably be eating his dust, too. He drives faster now than when he was in his 50's.
