I've been asking myself the same question, ever since Sean Hannity on Fox News interviewed Wayne Besen about the matter 2 days ago. Sean mentioned that he would be offended hearing slurs casted at or about anyone who was gay-identified. Wayne seemed quite surprised and taken off guard that Sean would even have thoughts within this dignified frame of mind. Then when Sean asked Wayne if he was in the least bit disturbed by the Folsom Street Fair ad, Wayne began to smile and said that the ad to him was only about a bunch of men (having ignored the fact that there were women in the ad as well) having fun, and that there's really no foul there, since it was presented at a festive event.
My impression is that, as Wayne does appear to represent gay activists as a whole, that when anyone who is as bitter and defended as he apparently is, as well as those he represents, that not only does that unfortunately cause them to lose sight of any sensitivities towards others, especially those who may oppose their self-serving cause, but to objectivity as well. This is saliently the case in the book he wrote, spuriously using playground name-calling language in diatribic form about American religious institutions and their members, and casting them immaturely in a light as monsters out to annihilate any one else, who could only be seen as their victim, in their way. With this kind of juvenile mentality, one could not ask for anything better than the answer he gave Sean that evening. In other words, much of the time, if not all the time, they can't and don't even consider this ad, or their slanderous words, as being offensive to others, since they can only see themselves, and others who live a life in contrast to the Judeo-Christian ethic, as possibly being victims.

The ad is really a powerful proof that there is no such thing as a "Gay" Christian, no matter what the MCC tries to say. If there were then the MCC would have risen up and protested the ad, however that will never happen, becuse Gays endorse sin. Christians oppose sin. And it is a well known fact that the City that endorses Homosexuality, in fact I for one do not do business with firms located there any more than I would have done business with businesses located in Sodom, as far as I can tell San Francisco is nothing new it is just Sodom with a new face. And how could you do an ad mocking those with no respect for themselves or others. They have no respect so any such ad would be lost on them, besides in SF the media ould not allow an ad that even attempted it! I have visited California many times and every time I have enjoyed the time in the state, and done so without spending a dime in San Francisco, to be honest about it I would not even drive through San Francisco if someone paid me, I would go out of my way to avoid that City of Perversion. I suggest that others do the same, if enough people start avoiding San Francisco and refuse to spend money there it would not tak long for the city to change its standards.

Free speech ...... maybe. But how is it that new and fresh mockeries of Christianity, Judaism, and God are called "free speech", and the ancient and timeless word of God denouncing sin is called "hate speech"?
Ultimately, it has the appearance of attempting to demean Christ for the purpose of promoting something He was against, regardless of what they say their intentions are. The 'Last Supper' was not a 'party', it was a solemn event - the remembrance of Passover, when God delivered Israel out of bondage in Egypt. I'm REALLY surprised that the Jewish community hasn't filed suit yet!
If they wanted to portray a 'party', how come they didn't use the painting of the dogs playing poker to emulate? Or maybe something more appropriate - maybe from Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel work . . . . you know ... like "Damnation"?
Just a thought.....
And, for the 'nay-sayers' accusing Jesus & the apostles of being homosexual... ever heard of sexual PURITY? Just 'cause you can't keep YOUR zipper up doesn't mean nobody else can!
Bottom line - it offends God, therefore it offends me, but it doesn't "hurt" either of US, just the ones who endorse it!
"Be not deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, so shall he also reap."
Galations 6:7
EDIT: For O Pad - Christians AREN'T bound by Old Testament Law, Non-Christians ARE! The regenerate man walks in grace, the degenerate man dies in sin . . . . just that simple!

No, it's not right, BUT when most people see "San Francisco" and "Homosexual" in the same paragraph what comes to mind is "Saddam and Gomorrah" from the Bible. The shock goes away quickly, makes you feel sorry for them, and you go on. Their "Church" is probably not rooted in any of the Biblical Beliefs most Christians have so the entire event turns into a circus of sorts. So many flaming homo's just love the shock value, and make it bad for the others, sad sad sad

ok, now i'm amused. it's interesting how some of the christians here are getting so upset about this. if they were truly trying to mock christ, you would think that they would have used a long haired white guy in jesus' position instead of a bald black man. just because a peice of art depicts a religious scene that does not make it a religious relic.
many of the world's great peices of art were created by gay men. if you want to be angry about something, how about you go protest michelangelo's david? that is a nude depiction of one of christ's ancestors. why don't you find that as offensive?
lighten up folks, you had a much stronger case for offense when the cross in a jar of urine peice was being displayed.
this is an ad, it will not be hanging in some museum for centuries to come.
please, there are far more important issues for christians to be offended over and to try and bring to the national spotlight.

As far as I can tell, they are making fun of a work of art. You could be offended if you were a member of Da Vinci's estate, other that that it is plain old-fashioned satire.
You know what would also be funny? A christian ad mocking the Village People.
There is nothing wrong with freedom of speech, and if some christians think the ad is attacking them, then there is something wrong with them.

It is an abomination against God Almighty and one day those who mocked God will weep and snash their teeth for the pain and suffering hell fires will bring and who will they cry for to help them? Jesus...But it will be too little too late...

Look lets not mince words about this, it is mockery with full and clear intent.
It is the product of very sick minds and is to be expected in these times when advertising executives will stop at nothing for money.

When the Christian movement stops discriminating against homosexuals and denying them equal rights you may have a leg to stand on. Until then...
