I have this stray cat I took in a week ago. She was very underweight and had thin hips. Her stomach is pretty big thoguh for having such small hips. When I hold her I hear a fluid sound coming from her stomach, what could this be?

She doesn't have worms, I know that. I'm taking her to the vets Monday, because I put an ad in the paper, but no one's claimed her. Long shot I know, but I didn't want to take someone's cat. I just wanted to know in the meantime.

It is possible, yes. You should take her in to the vet and have her checked out ASAP - if she's pregnant, you'll want to know so you can get ready for the kittens, and so you can make sure she's getting the right nutrition.

In the meantime, feed her kitten food (which is high in fat and protien to help her support the kitties if she IS pregnant, or to help fatten her up if she is not) and make sure she has access to clean water. If you see her trying to "nest" (creating a small area and guarding it, refusing to leave) she may be about to give birth. You'll want soft (but cheap) towels and to give her space if she seems to not want your attention - if she will let you, though.

The other thing it could be is worms. But I think we're all rooting for "kittens". :)

Worms are the first thing that comes to mind. The cat could be pregnant, but a "fluid sound" is not a common sign of pregnancy!!!!!
FIP and other conditions that result in fluid in the abdomen are also possible.

My friend had the same thing happen to her with a stray. She thought she was pregnant so she brought her in from the cold and it ended up that she was just full of worms. deworm her several times or take her to the vet.

Take her to the vet. You have a cat now and she needs to go to the vet. After she has her kittens get her fixed, Then she'll stay home a lot more and she will truly be your cat...Best of Luck
