It's not a bad pain, but where the hole is, it almost feels like I'm having a tooth ache. Or you know that feeling when your gums right between your teeth gets irritated? That feeling.

Am I still in danger of getting a dry socket?
Should I still rinse my mouth with salt water like once a day?

This is perfectly normal. Most people do not realize how invasive oral surgery, especially wisdom teeth removal can be. This hole will close up gradually, from the inside out. It is normal to experience some dull aching and such. You are no longer at risk for dry socket, but still tend to the area with care and keep it clean. You do not need to rinse with the salt water anymore if you do not want to. Take Advil as needed for the mild pain. I hope this helps!

I had four molars extracted some time ago and a week later, it was still bothering me. Whether four or one were extracted, it's still going to irritate you. My dentist had to stitch shut two of the extraction sites because they were so big and susceptible to infection. I don't know if your dentist did the same. And you should be rinsing your mouth with salt water after every meal, not just once a day. Try not to irritate it becuase you'll only make it worse. And if you're still having any doubts, call your doctor and ask; that's what they're being paid for right?

I am in almost the exact same boat you are. I had all four taken out and I am fine on the right side...but my left side is KILLING me!! As of today it will have been five days and I am running out of meds. I was told that because of the stitches, on my left side, it might take a little longer than usual to heal. Like you I am over thirty (37) and the dentist said it takes longer for us (30+) to heal and that the third and forth days would probably be the worst. My best advice is to keep up with the post op instructions for at least a week, then if it is not any better, go get checked out to make sure you didn't get an infection. I know its hard, especially trying to eat, but one day well laugh about this! ---------------------------------------... Update: I just got back from the dentist and he told me it was still just natural part of healing and was taking longer because I was older. He said the weird taste was normal too and he actually found a tiny piece of food deep in one of the holes that he said could of contributed to it. Well he gave me more pain pills, called me a big baby, and gave me a syringe to flush out anything that gets stuck in the holes (he said not to try and brush it out with toothbrush). So my advice remains the same, stick to your pain meds until they are finished or if you notice the swelling getting noticeably worse. Good Luck!!!!

All pulled teeth will experience pain or discomfort for a while, especially if you constantly chew on or in that vicinity, or "worry" it with your tongue, as most people tend to do.

If you are a child, ask your parents about it.
If you are an adult, and it still bothers you after a week (you didn't mention anything about severe pain or bleeding or anything like that), then call your dentist.

When I took my wisdom teeth out, I experienced the same feeling, especially since they cut open my gums and sewed them back up. The wound would bleed off and on for about 2 weeks, even after the stiches were removed. I rinsed my mouth with salt water and took any medications given. Eventually, it just healed up.

If you're worried, call the dental surgeon and see what's up.

The idea is that it should start to heal and feel better and that can take much longer than a week. If it gets worse and especially if the pain gets worse, or there is any bleeding call the dentist. It will of course be sore but should not be realy bad pain.

Eat foods that are "soft" for one thing.................BY ALL MEANS rinse with salt water. Question: Did they give you an antibiotic to take for any possible infection to the area, after it was extracted? I had all of my wisdom teeth pulled and after one week, it was slightly tender due to the "healing process". Now, on the other hand.....my son's girlfriend had all her wisdom teeth pulled and after one week, she said she was feeling great! So, you have to make your own judgement and it is ONLY a call away to the doctor's office for a professional answer to your question. Please make the call....it's your best move. Blessings and I hope it heals quick for you.
