Interesting...these people want to scare people by showing them the consequences of people's supposed sinful lives....such as aborted babies, the homosexual dying of AIDs, etc...

However, do you think "hell night" shows what happens when they ignore the sins of gluttony and allow themselves to get fat... Do they show fat people hooked up to dialysis machines, blood pressure monitors, or having to get around in wheelchairs, because they could not control their desire to eat too much...these verses show us that obesity/gluttony are sins...Proverbs 23:2, II Peter 1:6, Philippians 3:19, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Proverbs 23:20-21, II Peter 1:5-7, II Timothy 3:1-9, so why not focus on those too.

Or, maybe they could show a broken family after a divorce...a girl crying at night because her Daddy is not at home...for divorce is a sin too...1 Corinthians 6:9, Luke 16:18, matthew 5:32, Matthew 19:9,

Why do Christians pick and choose?

Why are so many fundamentalist Christians hypocrites in the "supposed" sins they choose to rail on?

Why don't fundamentalists rail against the divorced, the gluttons, the bankrupt/thiefs, etc.... why do they only pick certain sins to point out?

Could it be, they choose to ignore the sins that affect their lives?

Or, is it that the obese/divorced make up a large percentage of their monetary contributors...so, they do not want to offend these people...for their offerings would be lower.

I say, stop being hypocrites...if you are going to rail against one sin...rail against them all....

Notice that these "haunted houses" typically take advantage of Halloween (which some Christians are against) to promote homophobia.

No one would visit these displays if they showed the results of gluttony, divorce, or any other sin that is commonplace. Who would pay to see something that makes himself/herself feel guilty? It's much easier (and more lucrative) to make bucks off entrance fees which are based on promoting and normalizing homophobia. The fact that homophobia is a sin is also overlooked in the zeal to make money.

Some excellent points.

Here in Oklahoma (certainly a bastion of the Christian Right), we've got a big problem with unwed teen moms.

Odd, too, that the religious far-right that controls our state won't help these teen moms wit their babies and of course, the legislature is opposed to not just abortion, but birth control and sex education.

Real smart, eh?

Anyway - you are correct...a lot of Christians are what I call "à la carte Christians" in that they pick-n-choose which beliefs and parts of the Old and New Testament to follow.

I didn't know Christians sponsored haunted (hell night) houses.

Creepy, scaring people into your religion. Does that really work?

The fundamentalist christians I know are so anti-Halloween that they don't let their kids trick-or-treat to keep them away from children costumed as witches (promoting the misrepresentation of witches as satanic and magical evil-doers).

I can't imagine what the christian Hell has to do with Samhain (Halloween) and scaring souls for Jesus.

They are "cherry pickers" that's what I call them. Picking out what they like and ignoring what they don't like. Look at their bible, They always pick out the verses that say things like..."do unto others.." and "thou shall not kill.." or "do not have relations with the same sex.."
They always over look the sayings like..."stone to death anyone working on the sabbath.." and "cast the little ones upon the rocks.." or "the Earth is flat and the sun revolves around it.."

Interesting....but stupid!

Get a grip, dear one. Halloween is nothing more than a fun evening for kids to get candy and dress up in silly costumes.

Most Christians see it as just a fun, traditional American thing, nothing scary or needful of special scripture.

But feel free to rant and God bless!

Well I wen to some crap called "the judgment house" and it didn't show me anything other than how crazy "Christians" are. They think they are right and that is that, Pshh, religious freaks!

They pick and choose because it is human nature. Personally, I think these "haunted houses" are stupid. They show reality no more than traditional haunted houses. All of it is made up.

Because Christians like these have an agenda and it is political. They make headlines so they can push their message of hate.
