Prayer is necessary for everyday life. It's necessary for protection, and preservation. It's necessary for renewal and removal. God is the answer to all things. And prayer is communicating with God. In my opinion (now that you've made me think) Prayer's primary purpose would be to communicate with God. In prayer there is release from cares. There is comfort and strength in prayer. But most of all....there is power in prayer.
God Bless You

Prayer is so very important. We say WHY PRAY?? AS GOD ALREADY KNOWS OUR NEEDS. YEP. HE sure does. He knows everything. But, prayer is to draw us closer to God as we share our heart with Him, and then He will reveal the answers to us because we ask. HE says YOU RECEIVE NOT BECAUSE YOU ASK NOT. That is powerful. ALso, if we dont believe and have faith in God and know that God will answer our prayers, HE wont answer them. Faith still moves mountains today, and prayer still works. God said we are to confess our sins, turn from them, saying YEs to Him and NO to sin, and HE always says if you love me, obey me. ITs a command, not just a mere suggestion. But, God says to speak out and confess our needs, believe He will answer, wait knowing it will come. IT may not always be just as we asked or when he asked, but its ok, because we know that ONLY GOD knows what is best for us and when. W e truly submit fully to God and take on His desire for our own desires. Then we can have answered prayer and victory over sin, by the HOly Spirit power we received when Jesus died at the cross. Prayer is really for us. and what a blessing it is.
WE should live in a state of nonceasing prayer, just as God told us to do. IF ONLY WE WOULD FULLY OBEY......

We pray to demonstrate our faith in God, that He will do as He has promised in His Word, and will bless our lives abundantly more than we could ask or hope for (Ephesians 3:20). Prayer is our primary means of seeing God work in others' lives. Because it is our means of "plugging into" God's power, it is our means of defeating a foe and his army (Satan and his army) that we are powerless to overcome by ourselves. Therefore, may God find us often before His throne, for we have a High Priest in heaven who can identify with all that we go through (Hebrews 4:15-16). We have His promise that the fervent prayer of a righteous man accomplishes much (James 5:16-18). May God glorify His name in our lives as we believe in Him enough to come to Him often in prayer.

Primary? Several, and I agree with Beka and Warrior Bride.
Prayer is also a self-judging.
If we read through the "Lord's Prayer," with an eye to see the relationships between ourselves and God so clearly defined, we cannot but judge ourselves, taking a sort of spiritual inventory.
Essential, is, essential.

I think you are right that we should pray for our children. We should pray for them as well as others. Yes, it is true. We can come closer to God by prayer and he does answer our prayers when we are in need. But we must remember to do our part too-His will. His will of goodness to our fellow beings.

Prayer is the fuel of the Christian life. Its the most attacked function in the Christian's day.. that and reading the word. One is the feeding.. one is the drinking of the Spirit. If you do not feed and give a drink to someone that person will weaken and be an easy target. Satan knows this and attacks these matters.
Over the years I've realized that our prayer is the means for God's Will in the Heavens to be accomplished and carried out on the earth. Knowing it in fact and experiencing it in reality was truly an eye opener. Some matters are not carried out by God because we never brought it forward to the throne of Grace. There is the Lord who is our High Priest and Mediator in the Heavens interceding and praying for us. Yet He desires to not work on His own.. He truly wants man to align himself with His will in the heavens...
Prayer is such a privelege.. such a blesssing for us to be able to have bold access to God. Prayer is a matter of the spirit. Our Brother Jude encourages us in this way
Jude 1:20
" But you beloved, buliding up yourselves upon your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit"
Brother Paul also shares
Ephesians 6:13
" By means of all prayer and petition, praying at every time in spirit and watching unto this in all perseverence and petition concering ALL the saints"
Our prayer also becomes our watching. Prayer keeps us in tune with God. Makes us dependable to God. God was able to depend on Daniel because of His faithful habit of coming to Him in prayer three times a day. Daniel was blessed with Long Life and was able to stand with God on the earth to give God the means to carry out His purpose at that time.
May the Chuch be such a prayer warrior FOR God.
We need to be so open to the Lord that if He needs someone to be awaken at 2 am to pray and petition for someone in need HE KNOWS He can awaken Gilbert or Sandy. or any of the Brothers and sisters.
This is regarding ALL the saints in Christ Jesus. All the brothers and sister.. from the little ones in our home to the ones we are married to... to those who we fellowship with at church .. all of our unsaved family and friends.. anyone..
Great Q brother

You can get the same three responses if you pray to a rock and wait for random events to play themselves out.
Prayer is useless.
