Check whether your receivers are having the same problems with anyone's faxes other than yours. If all of the faxes they receive have the black line, the problem is with their machine. If only the faxes you send have the black line, then the problem is on your machine.
Since you said your receivers (plural) say that your faxes have the black line, my quick guess is that your machine has the problem. It seems to be overdue for some parts, cleaning, and/or maintenance. Good luck!

It is your machine. Check the scanning area. You will probably find dirt or some sort of gunk stuck to the scan lens. That causes the line.

Sounds like your machine. You probably need a new drum. You can get them at Staples or Office Max or any office supply store.
