I watch with interest the propaganda put out by the government over the last couple of years. Last year was really hot and this was down to global warming. This year is cold and wet, again down to global warming?? We are encouraged to believe that the only way to save the planet is to put a third tax on driving, a tax on parking spaces and a tax on flying otherwise our children will surely drowned, starve or "bake".
I for one find this all a little hard to swallow. Yes it makes good sense for us all to do our bit (recycle, be more energy efficient etc) but this does not involve handing over more hard earned cash to the government of the day. Taxes such as this will simply do more damage to our countries economy making us less and less competative.
The true reason behind global warming is simple that there are too many people on the planet. Perhaps if we tax more a few will leave!!

You will find that if you look at the plant over millions of years that it has been around, you will find that it has gone thru many warming periods. and cold periods. The government may not need reasons to tax us more, but if the can convince the people that the tax is in the peoples best interest then is a good idea to do so. Global warming as it is called is a natural phenominom and is caused by several reasons once of which is Sun Spots Activities have a great part in warming this old planet. Paying money for Global warming doesn't make any more sense than throwing money off the cliff. It is a good idea to help reduce pollution of garbage and the air but not for Global Warming, but for ones own health. We maybe in a warming change as the temperature in some parts of the world, warm up a little. But in 1975 to 1979 there was a big worry of a Global Ice Age. The earth goes thru cycles of warming and cooling over the ages and will continue to go thru this cycle long after we all are gone. Global Warming as a scare tactic is promoted by the leftist money mongerers of the world, and the opportunists to make money on ignorant people of the world. To help the pollutions and air quality just plant a tree. No need to buy pollution credits... this by the was a brain child of the most vigious leftist money monger, Al Gore.

Just a few responses:
1) Global warming is a SLOW and STEADY trend that has been going on for decades. One year colder than the last does not disprove it. One year warmer than the last does not prove it. A steady increase in the overall world average is what data is showing. Yes it could be some amazing coincidence that the effect is increasing as greenhouse gas emission is increasing! I think the simpler solution is humans are responsable.
2) You probably also like to throw in the argument that most greenhouse gasses are naturally occuring - yes, water vapor is one of them, and the greenhouse effect is essential for life as we know it. It's been reaching a balance for thousands and thousands of years, let's mess with it and hope there's no consequences!

You think we need less people on the planet? If people would consume 50% less useless crap (multiple cars, multiple computers, decorative crap, cans, bottles, double plastic wrap everything), then we could support twice as many people. So you can either contribute by doing something reasonable (cutting personal waste of materials/energy) or unreasonable (expecting half the planet to stop reproducing because you said so).

And the final answer is: we need taxes to protect the environment, because people will not listen to hundreds and hundreds of arguments, the loss of a few dollars to the government has much more impact! The tax also has to be high enough that people will be deterred from totally unneccessary waste, rather than just paying another dollar for it and whining.

I do not think we can argue that global warming does not exist, it does. how much it is down to our using fossil fuels is debatable. over millions of years Earth has had its warm times and from time to time ice ages. In a recent programme on TV some scientists had driven a bore into the ice cap and were able read the weather conditions over millions of years. They found that in the warm times there was plenty of Carbon in the air and little in the ice ages.
In conclusion i beelieve the powers that be are using global warming as a fiirst cleaa excuse to tax us more and generally make life difficult. Have you noticed that those shoulting loudest about the dagers are also those who will ,make the most money

If you haven't already, you should watch 'The Great Global Warming Swindle', a documentary that countered the Global Warming* crisis arguments made in 'An Inconvenient Truth', and was aired on Channel 4 in March 2007.
Among many evidences for the concepts of Global Warming* being a swindle, it revealed that this point in time was NOT the warmest or most extreme weather-period of Human History, by ways of several research methods made by scientists in different fields.
Ultimately, I feel that recycling and energy-renewal is a wise principle for many other reasons, other than that of fire-and-brimstone-crackpot zealous theories about Global Warming*. Taxing people on a THEORY is the same as back in the day when people had to pay religious taxes for their sins to royal-appointed pardoners under the watchful eye of the christian church and state. Can you imagine the outcry if they brought back pardoner's tax? Freedom of thought and all that? Welcome to 1984...

Some people insist that cattle damage the environment more than humans, but the truth is those cattle are there because humans raise them for food, so it's still human activity that's responsible for the damage.
But yes, I do think the Government is just using it as an excuse to tax us more. However, if there's a threat of fines for people who DON'T recycle then the answer to that is to recycle, yes? I recycle, I don't drive, I have compost bins in my garden and I catch rain water for the garden too. I do my bit, I can't do much more though. And I definitely agree that there are too many people on the planet, far too many. I remember reading once that the Earth has actually expanded around it's equator, and I have to wonder if it's crushed under the weight of us and our concrete jungles??

I assume you do not live in the USA, because the government here has vigorously denied the existence of Global Warming for the last 8 years. They change their tune only recently in a vain effort to make themselves a little less unelectable.

Tax revenue is one of the reasons to promote globalwarming. Others include the following:
To promote once washed up politiccal ambitions
To promote your product which will end global warming.

What is need is a complete overhaul of our tax system.
1. a tax credit of 5 cents for every mile driven
2 an end to gas taxes
3 an end to gov't sponsored subsidies on public transportation
4 Global warmist should be classified as a religion. This will effectively prevent the gov't from spending money on global warming because of separation of church and state laws. If a religion believes that unless we all go to their church we will all end up poorly the gov't can't force everyone to become a member of that church even if they are correct and we might be in big trouble. The same for the global warmist who says if everyone does not change their lifestyle we might have dire consequences.

Yes it is. We shouldn't have to pay taxes for that, because the government isnt gonna do anything about global warming anyway. As citizens, we should do our own environmental work

Couldn't agree more. Why can't the tree huggers come to terms with this simple fact of life? We could resolve global warming in less than one generation for the price of teaching birth control (natural or synthetic, Catholics) as the way to save the world. Then we can have our taxes back!

You are absolutely right.Anyone would think that we never had a storm or a flood or even a hot day before all this blew up.The politicians are absolutely shameless in their feeding frenzy but have failed miserably to explain exactly how paying extra taxes will effect climate change on a global scale. The only thing that they are certain of is that they want more money off us.
