I would make a simple chocolate sauce. Heat some double cream in a saucepan until it is almost boiling, then pour this over some good quality chocolate broken up in a bowl. Stir this until the chocolate has melted and serve! You can also chill this sauce and use it to drizzle over icecream or whatever else you fancy. For a bit of a twist, use a mars bar as the chocolate instead of just plain chocolate & add some chopped nuts...delicious !

Forachangefrom having chocolate sauce on chocolate sponge I quite like using butterscotch or toffee which is lovely. If you can get hold of cherry sauce, this is really nice as it brings back memories (for me) of having Black Forest Gateau when I was younger (remember them - always the desert at parties when I was smaller).
Yum - you've got me hankering for some chocky cake now!
Chocolate is such a universal flavour that you could really experiment with all types of sauces/syrups and I bet they'd all be lovely.
