méchant can be:mean ,nasty ,naughty, wicked,bad, villain ,unpleasant,disagreeable........
un regard méchant :a dirty look
être de méchante(mauvaise humeur):to be bad tempered

I have also heard it as in 'C'est méchant' or 'Ça goûte méchant', meaning it tastes awful.

I quite agree with what's above, though these translations are not really colloquial.
Sometimes, "méchant" can also mean something like "very good".
"Il est méchant !" = he's very good at it.
"C'est méchamment bon !" = it's so yummy.
You can say, for instance:
"Je suis allé essayer la PS3 chez François. Elle est méchante !" = exceptional
