Because a prophet is sent by God to deliver His message. The Quran appreciates their work as they tried their best to show people the right way.

Because like Judaism and Christianity, Islam teaches that those prophets were sent by God. As The Koran is only valid in Arabic, non-Arabic Muslims still like to use the Arabic word for God - Allah.

Mohammed is claiming to be the Last prophet of the God of the prophets .. so he has to say the prophets are decent chaps; also Jesus. That would be common sense rather than necessarily true investigation and appreciation of the prophets and Messiah and their messages.

Because everything God told them came true. The Lord says, "I do nothing until I tell my prophets first." You can always tell a prophet from the Lord, because his prophecy always comes true.
