I am looking to donate my car, but I want to make sure I am donating to a legitimate nonprofit.

I would like yahoo answer users to comment IF they have successfully donated their car, and the URL of the nonprofit where I can submit an application to donate my car.

Thx!

The nearest high school's shop class.

Then let them sell the repaired car to buy equipment for the school. If the car is not drivable then they can at least play with it the students can learn on it. This kind of donation can be easy to verify so if you itemize your taxes you can take the standard 20% deduction for charity.

I don't bother giving you a URL because for all I know you could live 500 miles from the location. There are programs out there that do something similar, but you can work out your own arraignment with the local school. They would love you for it, and you know that future mechanics will have had a chance to work on a real car before applying for a job. The IRS will not question this kind of deduction since it has been done before and it is easy to verify.

Goodwill will try to sell it. The Salvation Army will auction it off. Police departments will auction it off and all that money goes to help the community so they are good possibilities as well. I prefer the school because it helps so many young people.

VOA (Volunteers of America)takes donation cars. I gave them one a few years ago. They were prompt and sent the paperwork for me to get the tax writeoff. (I believe the web address is www.VOA.com)

Tryt this one - it is a nationwide charity that I believe will pick up any vehicle in any condition anywhere. They have been doing this for many years and seem quite reputable.

good luck!
