If he was really god's only son, why wouldn't god have foreseen that humans might want to know exactly what Jesus said, rather than have it written down by other men generations after his death.

Do you think the son of god might have been illiterate? (as all hippie laborers were from the Galilee in that time)

Body&-
If Jesus was anti-establishment and walked around with long hair and sandals, preaching love, kindness, forgiveness. To give away your money and possessions, etc. Doesn't that qualify as being described as a 'Hippie?' I didn't mean it as a derogatory term.

this is where the faith and believing comes in . The words were spoken to his disciples to be written down for the rest of mankind to read. you have to believe that those are his spoken words and have faith that he is alive in all of us.open your heart and let him in and all will be revealed to those who truly believe.......

I don't know but my guess would be to prevent them turning the "book" into an idol. Read the story of the brazen serpent in the wilderness and it became an idol and led the whole nation away from God. Maybe that is why God did not allow cameras to be invented atthat time either.

Edit: Jesus did know how to write, it is recorded inthe Bible that He wrote on the ground.

as a carpenter he probably didn't know how to write. it is known that he spoke Aramaic, a now mostly dead language, which was rarely represented in writing. during Jesus' silent years (13-33) when little is known about him, it is possible that he studied with some ascetic Essene nomad/communal types and may have learned to write during this period. who really knows though?

I think there is a Gnostic gospel supposedly authored by him but it's been dated as being written after his death.
Mostly, I think his non-existence has to do with it. Yup, I'm pretty sure books aren't written by people who didn't exist.

HIPPIE?! I don't care if you call Jesus illiterate, but DON'T call him a hippie.

To answer your question: Sorry, but Jesus was a little too busy preaching the kingdom of God and performing miracles to write an autobiography. He was only in his 30's when he died. So there wasn't any time to look back and reflect.

Jesus didn't need to write a book. God sent him one, but it has now been changed so much with time that it is barely recognisable.

Same reason why Socrates didn't right his own book, or Confucius I guess...great minds don't like to write maybe?

I think that it would have been arrogant to testify to Himself. For others to believe it would have to be the testimony of third parties.

He did write one, but the early church leaders felt it didn't fit in with their interpretation of his life.

He didn't have to. Someone else was already doing it.

Why is it you skeptics think you are the only people that can delegate?
