The profess 1 Corinthians 13 and yet have I to see my husband family act anything close to loving. I am a Catholic and have found this path best for me ... it's not for everyone. Just as Independent Baptists are not for everyone ... and so forth. I generally see them shun the homeless person in the back, tell him he can not use their bathroom! If you don't have all the rght clothes, make up, and hairstyle they treat you like a second class citizen and make it clear they pity you. So if their core value is love ... why are they so unloving?

Yup, condescension. They're loving toward the "right" people, but the rest are less than human. I've mentioned this before here, but when my husband (a pagan) served on an interfaith hunger task force here, there were no evangelical churches involved at all. Only the Catholics, Jews, Lutherans, Methodists..... it's pretty obvious who really wants to help his/her fellow man, and who just wants to condemn people to hell for not agreeing with them.

There is also something called tough love. Is the homeless person an alcoholic or drug addict? If so, you may have missed the part where they tried to help him or told him that if he would try to get with a program they would do what they could. Doing things for addicts is just enabling them to continue on a destructive path. This being the case or not, the point is that everything is not always as it seems.

On the other side of things, many do the wrong thing in the name of God. No matter the organization you will always have some that are not doing the right thing.

My husband and his family are Southern Baptists.
I can not wrap my mind around his family's bevahior.
They are all odd - seriously.
And arrogant, my gosh.
My in-laws are the biggest racists around and are pretty proud of the Baptists history of you know what i mean!!!!
(kkk)
I've never seen them turn away a homeless, actually, i have never seen anyone tell a bum in church they can not enter or use the bathroom..
My in-laws and SIL live in mobile homes and don't have much but they do look down on me and my husband for some reason.
My other BIL is lovely, his wife however is a ***** a rotten two-faced *****.
I don't know if i'm justifying what you're saying or defending it.
My husband and i help all people when and where we can.
We don't look down our noses at anyone but i do get that alot.
Today for instance. I took my 20m/o to our church's mother's day out, as i do every week. I smiled at everyone, said hello, did i get one smile and hi back - no!
I came home and just paced back and forth feeling like an @ss.
I don't know what it is....

I agree with you completley.
I was an independant baptist for 2 years,
Which eventually lead to me swearing off my religion completey.

I can not say this is true with all Indie Baptist but the ones I went
to church with felt they were doing gods work by telling others what they were doing wrong.

The Independents belief if other christans were not following the strict rules they had to follow, then they were back sliding and going straight to hell.

I never knew a christian group could be so snooty.

I wouldn't categorize all Independent Baptists to be similar to your husband's family. That's very prejudice. As with any religion, none perfectly abide by the rules. It's not because one denomination is better than another, but rather an individual choice of how Godly you strive to be. To categorize Baptists as ride would be like categorizing Catholics as child molesters. It's a prejudice and unfair analogy. It's not the denomination that's rude or molesting, but the people allowing Satan to use them.

The fundamental church think that they have it all when in reality they have very little knowledge about what they preach and are in for a very painful awakening when the World Teacher comes to settle this problem and bring in a one world spirituality based on love and justice for all mankind.

Because they don't truly love the way they are supposed to. I am constantly struck by people who profess to be one with God who swear, steal, have children who are rude and disrespectful. I am also frequently struck by the kindness of those who are supposed to be condemned to he--, because in others eyes they aren't 'doing the right things'. I think people are frequently hypocritical... they say they are true believers and yet they do not follow the teachings of Jesus.

Independent Baptist shouldn't be for anyone! But before you feel too pleased with Catholics, remember the Spanish Inquisition! Religion is like that and always will be.

Im sorry but that is true.
Im a Baptist and yet not all of us are this way.
There is this Xtian song (forgot the title) but it says something like Im filthy, wear sandals, have long hair and bear would you accept me in your church? Your elegant church with nice pulpit gorgeous drappery?
That man who is filthy portray Jesus would he be accepted today in our church.

Our pastor get's after us if we treat some ppl inferior to us for the way we look (or posses). Which he does right. I mean everyone deserves to go to church no matter if you are a prostitute, homeless, drug addict, tatood man, etc.

Once a preacher said there was a sign in a church (not in reality but it was an example of our ignorance of turning ppl away like you mentioned) There was a church that had a bulletin board saying
"We don't accept liars, prostitues, ppl with tattoos,"
In the front there was another church that said
"To all those who weren't accepted by our neighbor church, we have a seat ready for you in this church"

It was a methapor to wake us up.

Im sorry for treating some like that I apoligize in their behalf, their just, well, ignorant.

lots of Christians are laws oriented not love. Also many Christians believe they are only supposed to love other Christians, which is a lie. It is not the saved who need us but the unsaved, Even Jesus spent most if not all his time among the sinners. That is one of the reasons the religious leaders didn't like him.
