First you need an appropriate size spring trap. Then you use a stake to fasten the trap to the ground so that the beaver can't drag it off. To determine where to put the trap, look along the bank for signs of where beaver are getting into and out of the water. Place your trap just under the water with some of the stake sticking up above the water. Put some scent from the castor gland of a beaver on the tip of the stake and then go away for a day. Go back and check the trap daily until either you trap a beaver or you determine that you have chosen a bad spot. If it is a bad spot, go back to square one and look for another fresh area of ingress and egress for beavers along the bank and relocate your trap there. When you trap a beaver, if it is still alive, you will need to club it to kill it without messing up the hide. Be careful because they have some pretty bad teeth that will ake a serious bite out of you.

Prop a large box up with a stick that has a long rope tied to it. Place a beer under the box and when the beaver goes to take the beer, pull the stick out, thereby trapping the said beaver. Oh, you might want to cut a two inch hole in the box about three feet off the ground, this is not for ventilation, use your imagination. lol

By A beaver trap..Site selection is important for effective beaver trapping. Select small channels, and make sure the beaver frequent the shore for feeding. The water should be at least 10 to 12 inches deep.It must be set in an open position, entirely under water with the trip pan 8 inches below the waters surface. Some shoveling may be required to properly position the trap for optimal trapping conditions. The trigger should also be adjusted to about 4 inches under the water. Freshly cut weeping willow branches, or poplar under 1¼ inches in diameter can be used as bait, and placed on the shoreline where the beaver visit.

Don't forget to wear gloves when you are getting the fur. Wild beavers have all sorts of bugs and diseases. Never eat wild beaver. Never take a wild beaver home with you. Your parents will not be impressed to see it in the living room.

First you need to make sure it's legal to Trap Beaver in your state to begin with. Second, you will need a steel leg hold trap. Third..If you plan on trying to catch a LIVE Beaver for some type of college stunt on Spring Break you can forget that. It is illegal in most states to "possess" a LIVE wild animal ie: Beaver of any kind without the proper permits and licenses...

Heeeeere Beaver Beaver Beaver!
lol. Lookup the "OHIO SNARING GUIDE" on the web. It is in PDF format, but will tell you exactly what to do to snare them.
If you are lloking for the elusive spring break beaver, I would modify it just a bit by putting a shot of vodka in the center of the snare.

Why would you want to trap a wild beaver ? why not wait till he's asleep and hit him over the head with a big stick. Try netting the swim hole so they get trapped and drown, thats if the ice has gone.
