Munchausen by Proxy is a mental disorder that causes mom's to make their kids ill, sometimes fatally so, for attention.

They crave the attention they get when their children are sick, so they make them sick.

In Munchausen syndrome, the affected person exaggerates or creates symptoms of illnesses in themselves in order to gain investigation, treatment, attention, sympathy, and comfort from medical personnel. In some extremes, people suffering from Munchausen's Syndrome are highly knowledgeable about the practice of medicine, and are able to produce symptoms that result in multiple unnecessary operations. Hypochondria (or hypochondriasis, sometimes referred to as health anxiety/health phobia) refers to an excessive preoccupation or worry about having a serious illness.
IF its for no reason, id go with hypochondriac, but if they parents are creating an illness first its Munchausen.

Munchausen by Proxy and its controversial.

Social Workers in the UK have accused totally innocent women of having this just because they were nervous, naive first time mums who panicked every time their babies were a bit sick or whatever and called the doctor.

They need to be much more careful when making this diagnosis in future. Many so-called Munchausen's sufferers were just over cautious and over protective first time parents.

Munchausen syndrome is a psychiatric disorder in which those affected feign disease, illness, or psychological trauma in order to draw attention or sympathy to themselves. It is in a class of disorders known as factitious disorders which involve "illnesses" whose symptoms are either self-induced or falsified by the patient. It is also sometimes known as hospital addiction syndrome.

Well, you could call them hypochondriacs if it's severe, or just very nervous parents.

My dr tells me he'd much rather see a kid too often than not enough.

Munchausens by proxy is if they are making their children ill with poisons or something like it, and then taking them to the hospital. Munchausens is if they are making themselves ill.

Hypochondriac is someone who insist that they have an illness to get attention. I would guess if it is the child, it is hypochondriac by proxy. The other type that other posters mentioned involves real injury, not fake.

Munchhausen Syndrome
Different from hypochondria because hypochondriacs actually believe they have an illness. People with Munchhausen are aware that they are faking.
