I have Crohn's Disease and Coltis. I'm 15 years old, and i find it extremely difficult to deal with these diseases. The worst part is, is that have to take 12 pills a day, plus iron supplements. I can barely swallow these pills! I've always struggled with taking pills, and i have no choice but to take them. I'm never going to get better if i don't get them down. It takes me literally 15 minutes to swallow 2, and i always gag and feel nausea afterwards. Anyone have any good advice on how to swallow pills easily?! Thanks!

hi cutie, i was dxed at the age of 12 with crohns. I truly understand what you are going through.

ask your pharmacist or MD if the pills can be crushed and taken with applesauce or pudding or if there is a liquid form. If the meds make you nauseated, see if your GI can prescribe something else. ginger tea is suppose to help w/nausea or camemile tea.

Iron will wreak havoc on your gut even if you a non crohnie so be sure to drink it w/OJ so it absorbs into your system. Are you a candidate for an iron infusion? I get mine every 9- 12 months. that way I don't take any iron pills.

go to the crohns and colitis site for information on treatments, diet, medications, and finding a local support group. ibdsupport/dragonpack is for kids where you can chat with others your own age.

are you sure that you have crohns and UC and not crohn's colitis (the crohns is located in your large intestine) UC is colitis in your large colon, rectum and anus only whereas crohns can affect anywhere from your mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestines, large intestines, rectum, and anus. It's medically impossible to have both CD & UC --ask your GI to verify if you are confused.

it stinks to be so young & deal w/this. Good luck to you & be sure to look into a support group to get ideas from others your age in taking medications.
