The gnostic texts fit everything that the cannon consists of. The only difference is a bunch of cardinals didn't let them into the bible a long time ago. Why is it so hard to consider that they might have been mistaken?

Remember there was a time when doctors had no problem with smoking, kids brought toys weapons on plains, and the earth was flat. Isn't it at least a possibility.

First, the word is accept, not except. I'm not being nitpicky; you have to use the right words if you hope to be understand properly.

Second: the Nicene Council met in Nicea about 390 AD and threw out all the books that didn't fit their idea of what Christianity should be about. Since it's all just a mythology made by men to confuse and control other men, it means little in the grand scheme of things anyway.

Of course, Christians will tell you that those men of the Nicean Council were good men doing God's work. But we have only those men's word for it and they're long since dead. Also all people who allegedly are acting for God are self-referential in their authority.

becuase their all ignarant, oh and bytheway"Jesus is Lord" Rev 22:18-20 was actually written before any of the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke And John, At that time The "bible didn't exist" It was just a bunch of scrolls or if you want to be Biblical about it They were called Sticks. John the revalator was writing and refering to only his writings. Stupid If you really want to take that literal, your dismissing all the gospels in the new testament as Scripture. Do some research before you answer questions. also Moses Says the same thing in his writings in the old testament. The bible also says that world cannot contain the amount of scripture that has been written, it also talks about the Lost Books, ie Book of Wars....It amazes me how often those lil tidbits get overlooked when people start biblebashing.

I'm a christian of the Roman Catholic denomination and yet I fully read and accept the Gnostic Gospels. There is a wealth of learning to be had from them. It is also said that they are perhaps older and more closely resembling to what Jesus actually taught. I think that back then, Christianity was more or less trying to make the whole teaching of Christian doctrine orthodox. If you read about the early church and and the ancient Christians, you really can get a feel of how it really should be-the church in the purest form and as it was truly intended by the early believers and followers of the time. I try to follow that path.

I don't think many people know about them. When I have mentioned them before I was told that Satan wrote them...I’ve also heard that G-d wrote the NT and the bible was just made the way it is. I guess man never canonized them…I think most people just go by what their pastor tells them or they just don’t think. I think the Gnostic gospels are really interesting and I think every Christian should read them; it just might inspire some new/different thought.

Rome, as you already know, forced the Council of Nicea to sit down and set Christian doctrine; because Christians were fighting among themselves over their varied doctrine, and upsetting the harmony of the State. (Rome)

Where consensus could not be reached, Rome would decide. The library (read, Bible) was built... with many books omited.

Politics has always played a significant role, in each earthly religion. Papal infallability was anounced as The Pope discovered his earthly authority diminishing. -- Oh, there are just too many examples.

Yes, I agree that everyone should study the history of religions, and consider anything ever contributed to the evolution of religion. Including the history of Nicea, and the gnostic texts...

Because they are not written in the same Spirit as those chosen to be canon. Having read several of them, I would have to agree. Those that were chosen were determined by consensus, and generally accept by most believers at the time as inspired writings, as witnesses by the Holy Spirit within them. It's the same Spirit within believers today that verifies that truth.

The only Christians who except the Bible are those who've left the Church. Anyone who doesn't accept the Bible is not a Christian.

Don't think all that many Christians even know about them. They go to Church on Sunday and get a nice preacher to do all their interpretation for them and feel holy if they do a few good deeds during the week.

They have never been accepted as Scripture..They simply put failed the test for inspired scripture.

There are so many false texts that claim to be inspired that we could spend our whole life examining them and never read the Bible as we should..
