Most but not all.

I do not know what others thinking is in this matter but I have seen the surveys and my thinking is in conformance with the surveys available to us.

And now.
WHY ?

We are social creatures and as such we seek companionship, we have other needs and appetites also which can only be full filled by a life partner or a husband or a wife or even a significant other, as the case may be without violeting community guidelines, and laws provided by the society, that we are member of or we live in.

James, I personally believe that many of us go through many partners before we actually meet the one who will be our life partner. We learn from these other relationships (that we usually think are for life also) and they help us to be better prepared for the eventual Life Partner that we end up with. Why we need one is to share the highs and lows of life. To experience life through the eyes of another and to grow old with.

I don't think I "need" a life partner... I want a friend who will share my life with me & me share his... if I find someone to do this with (even for the time being) then that would be great! To me, there are many soul mates... not a certain one person for life... but this is what is best for ME! And maybe not what is BEST for everyone!

You may live alone for some years but in the long run you realise the need of a life partner. That's human behaviour.

I don't think it's a must. It's certainly the norm and most people do look for a life partner. But there are plenty of people who choose to remain single (I'm one of them) and I don't think it means we have less capacity to care for someone else. both sides (ie single life and married life) have their pros and cons. It is really up to the individual and what they want from life. We are animals yes, but what separates us from all other animals is our will, our choice, our ability to think for ourselves.

good question ...

Depends on the social circle one is in.

If there is none probably one could end up either as
!) lunatic / terrorist.
!!) great thinker / philosopher.
but chances are less to be a more complete human being.
