I've heard nothing about any part of the UK having a ban on smoking in the car.

I think that the law is all for banning everything that takes your mind off the road and the wheel for even just a second, because thats how accidents can be caused.

However, I'd say that smoking in your own car is taking the ban a little too far. Should people that really smoke have to stop at the side of a motorway just because they smoke when it's really not even safe for the thousands of people that break down.

No, no no!

Will they ban the "gear-stick" next? Not having both hands on the steering wheel?
And what about the Police? Driving and using their radio at the same time?
It happens, I`ve witnessed it as have many others.
Ban radios and cd players in cars also.
Ban children and all passengers as they cause the driver to lose concentration.
Remove signposts & traffic lights, driver has to take his eyes off the road to read them.
It`s getting fecking stupid!
Why don`t they just simply ban all private cars and be done with it. The stupid feckers.

Warning: Car cigarette lighters and ashtrays can kill.....

I am a smoker. I wish I could stop, but i've been smoking so long I don't know how to. I've tried everything. But what do I think?

I think everyone who does smoke should quit for 1 day. On the same day. I just wonder how many taxes would be lost for that one day.

Raise the taxes on a Big Mac n fries and super-size it. These things are bad for your health too.

People can close their car windows and turn their air on.

You have heard wrong.
It is only a recommendation in the latest edition of the Highway Code.
What it means is if you have an accident while you are smoking and driving it may be considered that you were not driving with due care and attention because of the distraction of smoking.
There is no ban as with mobile phones.

Load of rubbish!!!
Its only going to be a Highway code guide line and not law. You can already be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention if you do something stupid. We don't need any more laws.

I REALLY HATE THE POLICE NOW if they are going to get involved in anyway with the smoking ban. If they do they will be my enemy.

I think its taking things to far, I mean who really drives with two hands on the wheel at all tmes? I certainly don't, usually have one resting on the gear stick, will they outlaw this to?

Loud music is also on the agenda, takes the pis* just another money making scheme.

Athough according to the news they will only prosecute if you have an accident.

For God's sake, just make sure you don't take your hand off the wheel to change gear either. The anti-smoking lobby are going too far. Can anyone here give me the figures for deaths on the road caused by smoking? Anyone???

You can be reported for doing many things when also driving a car.

It all depends whether the police think you were not driving with due care and attention or not in full control of your vehicle

I depends. Some people are multi-tasked, some arent. I hate getting behing idiods who drive 20 below the speed limit because they wont get off their cell phone. I think you should be allowed to have some smokes as long as your driving the speed limit and its not distracting you.
