I have heard that prenatal vitamins work. I have personally had success with barley grass. What about Sea Kelp? I have heard conflicting answers on that one. Any others???

Hair grows on average one half inch per month which translates into 6 inches per year depending on your genetics make-up.

Taking supplements is a great way to keep your new growth healthy shiny and strong. However the addition of any of the wives' tail products will do little to enhance your growth rate.

Sorry but that is the way that it is.

By nature, everyone's hair grows at their own pace - about 1/4 to 1/2 inch per month. Taking a balanced multivitamin or prenatal vitamin will not necessarily make your hair grow faster, but will improve the condition, strength, and health of your new growth. ALWAYS consult your physician before adding a new vitamin or supplement to your routine. Your doctor may have a better suggestion and some herbal supplements can interact with traditional pharmacueticals.

Choosing a vitamin with Biotin as a listed ingredient may speed growth but will definately imrpove the health of your new growth. I prefer GNC's Mega Women's Hair, Skin & Nail formula since it has higher does of Vitamin E and Biotin that are effective in improving the overall health of your hair, skin and nails.

It is more important to remember that everyone's hair is different and grows at different rates. There is very little research to back most supplements claiming to speed your hair growth. Always check with your family doc first because what I use as a 29 yr old woman may not be the best choice for say an 18 year old woman.

Best of luck!

The combination of B-complex and E will help your hair grow faster over short periods of time (a few months here and there). When I have had periods of hair loss due to my medications, I have taken B-complex and E with Selenium. The hair thinning has slowed down, but my hair has also grown really fast. B-complex combined with EPA/DHA (fish oil) has made my hair grow faster than my hairdresser can keep up with. But I've also drunk at least 64 ounces of water per day with the vitamins (usually more).

Go to Vitamin Shoppe and buy the B-Complex Stress formula with C, and the EPA/DHA vitamins. You should be able to get both in the Vitamin Shoppe brand (cheaper) in big bottles. Check their website. Take both pills twice a day. You should start to see a difference in about a month. After 3 months, take a break.

I have been using HairFinity Vitamins for about 3 months and my hair has grown about 3 inches. Their website says that their vitamins contain specific nutrients that are essential for faster hair growth. For example, MSM lengthens the natural hair growth phase allowing greater lengths to be achieved. Biotin, another key ingredient, promotes cell growth, the production of fatty acids, metabolism of fats, and amino acids. These two ingredients in addition to the others (Folic Acid, Niacin, Silica, etc) are all essential for for maximizing hair growth.

When I was 15, I had a significant amount of hair loss. My holistic doctor put me on an herb called horsetail, and it's sister supplement called silica. Both these herbs are known for encouraging hair growth and promoting healthy hair and nails. Jojoba shampoo is also helpful.
