My new 60GB Playstation 3, for some reason is playing my games at normal volume, but when I put in ANY DVD or BluRay movie, I have to turn up the volume all the way up on my sorround sound system. Litterally ALL THE WAY UP. And it's still not loud enough. Is there some hidden setting in the PS3 configuration that I have to adjust?

I have my PS3 connected to the Surround Sound reciever through an HDMI connection and then my reciever connected to my 63" plasma TV through HDMI as well. I don't see why it would becausing this to happen. It should be all uncompressed.

It could be the compression onn the dvd or blueray disc.... If you are playing on an older set (non hdtv) then the compression doesn't match the tvs output. THe games automatically adapt...

Yeah, I noticed that too with my 60GB PS3. I don't know why it does that, but for some DVD's I have turn the volume almost all the way up at times when someone is talking softly and then turn it back down again when the people in the movie talk normally. I guess it's a sound issue with the PS3 and the T.V. or something.

Are you using a optical cable for your sound to your surround sound? If not I would try that.
