The medals and ribbons could be grouped together. Take a light weight wooden board, and cover it with a thin layer of quilt backing, smoothly cover and affix it with glue or staples. . Buy some material at the fabric store, make sure it is washable, ironable, and the kind that pin holes witll not show in it . Buy enough to cover the board with several inches to spare on each side, and cover up the batting. . practice wrapping the material around the board. Take it off, iron it if needed, and pin or sew your ribbons and medals to it, [lay them out first, then affix them]. Then wrap the marerial back around the board, and fold in the extra material making the corners neat so you can't see them from the front, and staple the material to the board. The beauty of this is when it gets dirty, just remove the ribbons.and medals and staples, wash the material, and put it all back together again.
Try Martha Stewart.com, she has a memo board that she makes, it might help you with this project.

I just saw a Home&Garden show where a guy who fishes, saves his lures after he's caught big fish with them.

The "host" framed a piece of fabric (cover a piece of wood or cardboard) and then hooked (or pinned) the items to this fabric. Then they hung the "frame" on the wall.

You could attach your ribbons, medals etc the same way. You could also start with a cork type message board. If you cover it with fabric, tacking or gluing the ends to the back, you'll be able to pin things to the board but you won't see the cork.

Why not try some shadow boxes and frames.. You can group like items in a shadow box and hang.. It saves space and looks like art. You can get shadow boxes from any craft store.. You can even customize them by staining them or painting the frames.. Michael's Craft Store often has coupons in the Sunday circular if you are on a budget !

Buy a trophy shelf, or put all of them in one section of your wall and call it your "Wall of Fame".
