"God helps those who help themselves" is not true because those who help themselves, do not require any help from God, and so consequently, they will not ask for it, and will not recieve it.

God is not American. He doesn't just tell us to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and he'll help us along the way. While the God does honor hard work and diligence, there are people who simply cannot help themselves either to their inability or to sin specifically- theirs or someone else's. God 'helps' people first spiritually when they respond to Him in faith that He exists and is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. You cannot always expect to understand what God is doing or why he responds a certain way, but trust in him as God and your only God gives you a relationship. This matters because its not a faith in yourself and your work that causes God to help you, but a faith in God's mercy and love for you that He will never leave you nor forsake those who love him.

I think thats about right.

Its not in the Bible. No where in the Bible does it say this...

Instead...

The Bible says:

Acts 17:28
For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

John 1:3
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

John 3:27
John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.

Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Hello,

Because that saying is not in the bible at all. It came from the protestant work ethic and Social Darwinists during the mid 19th century to justify their positions vs the poor riff raff that had to work in appalling conditions.

I don't know... my brother claims that God guides him to stay in med school for the last 14 years, now he has a wife and three kids and no job, just school tuition and loans... but God seems to be providing for him... so maybe it is true... just never happens to work out that way for me...lol

God helps those who help others. It says in the bible that if you help someone out he will give you back what you gave by three fold.

God helps those who help themselves is not true to those who do not want His help and are doomed.

Because God helps those whom He wants to help and no one can force Him to help.

Because everything I have, I earned myself...

I'd think I would remember a big guy coming down from heaven and paying my mortgage bill...
