That would not be a confession. In confession you are not telling sins you will commit, you are telling sins you have committed and you are SORRY for...that is the key. You must be sorry for offending God.

Telling a sin you will commit is not being sorry nor does it fall under the guidelines of a confession, it is a threat...so in my opinion, yes, the priest could tell the police.

You do realize that it's not a sin to kill someone in self-defense, right?

I doubt that a threat is covered under the rubrics of Confession anyway.

I'm not a Catholic, or in the clergy...not even Christian...but as a law abiding member of society, I can pretty safely say...yeah. He can tell the police.

Isn't there an exception when a life is at stake?
