Acts 5;1-12

But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold possessions 2 and kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the Apostles feet
3but peter said, Ananias, why has satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and keep back part of the price of the land?
4while it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine power? why hast though conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men but unto God.
5and Ananias hearing these words fell down, and Gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things 6 and the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out and buried him 7and it was about the space of three hours later, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in 8 and peter answered unto her, tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? and she said yea for so much 9 then peter said unto her, how is it that ye has agreed together to tempt the spirit of the lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out 10 then she fell down straightaway at his feet and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. 11 and great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.
12 and by the hands of the Apostles were many sign and wonders wrought among the people: and they were all with one accord in solomon's porch.

Christians believe this to be the punishment for lying to God, I see the murder of two people, by the hands of the apostles.
two people that had just handed over most of the money they had received for the sale of their entire possessions. I see this in the way as it is written, as a story, not as a fact. but it influenced my opinion of the church and of the validity of the bible

you're an extremely naughty female! and you apart from might wasted an incredible hazard. somewhat of installation a straw guy argument approximately some thing that purely isn't interior the Bible, you have picked an occasion this is interior the Bible. So why did no longer you? for the reason which you are able to no longer locate something remotely equivalent to the obnoxious occasion you went on approximately? The Bible constantly states the justifications for God's judgments on persons and communities of folk. it constantly has to do with wickedness and gathering evil. to illustrate, he gave the Amorites over 4 hundred years until eventually now performing to wreck them. The 4 hundred years in basic terms led to the Amorites to commit further and further atrocities against human beings. yet seem how God's endurance is used as an excuse to rage against God's eventual judgment! properly, Mark, thank you for making me snicker - at seven of the clock this Friday morning! impressive! Apple supplies the final ripost on your question, by way of the way. no choose for me to assert greater.

I agree.
Paul Corinthian I
If I speak in the tongues of men and angels, but have not love,
I have become sounding brass or a tinkling symbol.

And if I have prophecy and know all mysteries and
all knowledge, and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains,
but have not love, I am nothing.

And if I dole out all my goods, and
if I deliver my body that I may boast
but have not love, nothing I am profited.

Love is long suffering,
love is kind,
it is not jealous,
love does not boast,
it is not inflated.

It is not discourteous,
it is not selfish,
it is not irritable,
it does not enumerate the evil.

It does not rejoice over the wrong,
but rejoices in the truth

It covers all things, it has faith for all things,
it hopes in all things, it endures in all things.

Love never falls in ruins;
but whether prophecies, they will be abolished; or
tongues, they will cease; or
knowledge, it will be superseded.

For we know in part and we prophecy in part.

But when the perfect comes, the imperfect will be superseded.

When I was an infant,
I spoke as an infant, I reckoned as an infant;
when I became [an adult],
I abolished the things of the infant.

For now we see through a mirror in an enigma, but then face to face.
Now I know in part, but then I shall know
as also I was fully known.

But now remains faith, hope, love, these three;
but the greatest of these is love.

There are SO MANY. But I especially love Galatians 5:22-23:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

1 John 5
Faith in the Son of God
1Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
