Dogs are usually kept as a companion so eating a dog would be considered wrong by most cultures.
Most of us think the thought of eating a dog is really gross and would never consider it (unless you are starving to death ~ but even then I personally would rather starve).
As you pointed out, in some countries people do eat buffalo, ostrich, and dogs. Maybe they only eat those types of animals because there's not many other options, or maybe they have been brought up eating those sorts of animals, so don't think twice about it.
My mum frequently cooked rabbit when I was growing up. I'd never consider eating a rabbit willingly.. they're tooooo cuuuute!!!! Mum used to tell me it was chicken :(
But lots of people eat rabbit, and think they're yummy. so I guess it's what some people are used to?
If you're really really hungry, and you won't be devastated when your dog dies, go ahead, eat him up.
Just don't come asking me for a kiss afterwards :P

Thats gross and you should know that Natural Causes does NOT mean there was nothing wrong with the dog.. people and dogs dont really just drop dead from nothing or naturally.. A natural death could mean died of cancer, heart disease, and any number of things.
If you read the obituaries in the paper daily you will see all kinds of fairly young people dying of Natural causes when you 'should' know that dying at the age of 30 or 40 is certainly not normal or natural.

I would really be interested in seeing how many of the morons who say it's wrong to eat dog, but wouldn't think twice about chomping down on any number of farm animals available on the market.
An animal is an animal -- be it human, pig, cow, chicken, dog, cat, horse, rabbit, etc. What is the differnece between a pig and a dog to make it okay to eat pigs but not dogs? Its been scientifically proven that pigs are just as smart, if not smarter than dogs -- so, honestly, what's the big problem? Just because we keep dogs as companions here in the states means that it's automatically wrong?
If that's the case, for all of you people who say it's wrong to eat dog -- you aren't allowed to eat pigs anymore because I had one as a child, therefore it's automatically wrong.
Answering the original question: I wouldn't think it was wrong but I'd find it quite odd. I suppose it's because my dogs are a huge part of my family, I would never think about eating them if they died of natural causes anymore than I'd think about eating a human child. Plus, why would you want to eat dog anyway? It's an acquired taste, like ostrich, and most people who are used to eating just cow, chicken, turkey, and pig meat usually don't find dog meat to be as appetizing. Not to mention you have no idea whether it would be safe at all to eat your dog and you'll probably end up in a hospital with food poisoining, anyway.

Ok..... this is soooo wrong! I agree with Judy. Show the dog some respect... If you died in your house and no one found you would it be ok for your dog to eat you???
*feels sick*
Also i doubt that in china they name, bond, love and live with the buffalos, ostrich's and the dogs then eat them.

The only thing 'wrong' with it is possible diseases or conditions that the dog may have had. Don't forget too that the dog received vaccinations, so eeeuuu to eating flesh with that in it. And consider what the dog died of also (cancer?) Not a very sanitary thing to do. Honor your dog and bury him/her.

It's not apart of the culture in America to eat your dog. If that's your preferance though, I would not recommend it.

May it be your dog or what, wouldn't it be very mean eating a pet? Butchering dead animal and eating it is not safe though, even when cooked well.
