Noah and his wife and his 3 sons were left and the following happened
"Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.
2The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.
3And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.
4And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim."
Now the very next passage goes as follows!!!!
"5By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands;"
Now how could a land filled with Gentiles exist if God wiped everyone out leaving only Noah, his three sons and their wives????
This does not make sense.
I look forward to more imaginative ideas from our Christian community.
In fact 10 points to the most imaginative answer!!!!!

What's more there seems to be a lot of sons mentioned there, but no daughters...
if everyone was wiped out in a flood bar the sons of Noah, and they all had sons - exactly who did they pro-create with I wonder!?
The bible is a storybook, in my opinion.

You don't have to be a theist to work any of this stuff out.
If another flood came and went and the survivors set up shop on a place called "the Isles of the Britons" why would you suppose it was called that because Brits had survived and continued to live there? Would England the various parts of the UK and the UK itself *HAVE* to be renamed because it got flooded?
Genesis 10:05 - By these (these being the generations descending from Noah's tribe) were the isles of the Gentiles (pre-flood coastal regions) divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.
Did you know you don't have to be religious to read the Bible? And that reading the Bible properly, and learning what it means, won't turn you in to a Bible basher overnight? You can read and learn about it just for what it is without making any committment at all to God, or to anybody else for that matter. But the difference is, if you make the time to learn your subject you won't keep on making the rest of us atheists who DO try to study the Bible look so bad.

Bible is a historical novel. Some of the events are fact but the authors needed to spin the story to push Christianity. Many of the bible stories don't make sense in the factual way, like Noah's sons repopulated the world. Or Noah built an ark for all the animals in the world, which in itself is impossible. All the food required, not to mention the space and 1 guy doing all this, don't think so. The stories were meant to tell a story with a moral...that's it. If you take the stories from the bible literally and believe everything actually happened, you are a fool.

The people of Israel are the descendants from the line of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, all others are the non-jews or gentiles. Moses is at this verse 5 telling that all the gentiles nations comes from Noah's sons, grandsons, great grandsons, etc. mentioned at the previous verses. Those divided the Earth / lands among them including the islands.

Edit: to the lady:
The women are almost never mentioned in hebrew genealogies, that does not mean there were no wives, daugthers, etc.

Why read the Bible to find contradictions...Your pride is keeping you from seeing what God wants you to see...Seek God with a pure heart, and not a heart with ungodly motives just to prove a point.
-1 Then the Lord said to Noah, "Come into the ark, you and all your household, because I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this generation. (Gen 7:1)
-7 So Noah, with his sons, his wife, and his sons' wives, went into the ark because of the waters of the flood. (Gen 7:7)
-13 On the very same day Noah and Noah's sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and Noah's wife and the three wives of his sons with them, entered the ark-- (Gen 7:13)
-18 Now the sons of Noah who went out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. And Ham was the father of Canaan. 19 These three were the sons of Noah, and from these the whole earth was populated. (Gen 9:18-19)
The Gentiles came from Noahs descendants (as you see the lineage in vs. 1-4). When you see the line lineages throughout the Bible it's for a reason...and many people just skip through it.

Gen 6
17 I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. 18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons' wives with you.
AND YOUR SON'S WIVES ..... these wives could have been non Hebrew, as he son's offspring developed into a different branch of peoples, such as Arabs, Asians, Anglo, African. THE BIBLE DOES GO ON TO TELL OF THE DIFFERENT POPULATIONS FORMED.
You do pose a good question as it pertains to were the wives of the sons of Noah came from and which son and wife is responsible for lineage of todays population.
You see how badly things can be misinterpreted when you leave out significant words like SONS WIVES.

You are wasting your time.
The flood, as described in that fairy-tale book called the bible, never happened, except to flood an area of 14 miles by 100 miles in the flood plain where the overflowing Euphrates and Tigris Rivers met before the water receded.
To the writer of the story, it was his `world.` And, if everyone was killed, how come he was the only one to survive and tell the tale, because that`s all it is or was, a tale. And idiots believe it without even considering the truth of it.
There was no ark, no ten million animals in an ark which would have been bigger than the Queen Mary II of today, made up of thousands of tons of wood which was not available in the desert, or tools to make it with, Noah survived, so did his wife and kids. And so did the person who wrote the story! And allowed mankind to survive and give birth to idiots who are taken in with such childish rubbish.

WOW!!! You really ARE seeking truth! I read a bunch of your questions. Well, good for you.
I have to agree with Unknown on this one. He is right on. Yes, there were wives. What is really interesting, is the study of what each one of Noah'[s son's names mean. Now that will get the wheels of your head spinning. In fact, dare I say, REVELATION? Check out this easy, yet informative, read:
