My hamster is always chewing on the bars of his cage. What does that mean? Is it bad for him? I give him toys to chew on but it does not help. Why dose he chew on the bars more when it is hot out?

It makes noise! They like that for some reason! I have a tank and a cage that connect and my hamster when he wants to chew he chews on the bars! I gave up on buying chew toys because he wont mess with them her prefers the bars and the cardboard tubs from toilet paper! I haven't figured out why he does it more when it is hot yet! All the hamsters I have ever had do that and I don't know why! the hamster that I have now is very healthy and he is getting bigger everyday so I don't think it has harmed him in anyway!

My hamster did the right comparable ingredient! all the superb chew toys, and he or she chews on the steel bars... -_- She did it continuously, in no way had concepts harm or something, and that i had her for 2 years till she surpassed from previous age. i in my opinion do no longer think of it reasons that, yet once you like, there are some issues which you would be able to placed on the cage which will save it from chewing!

Hamsters chew. Their teeth are always growing and they've got to whittle them down. Maybe he likes the way the bars feel on his teeth. Maybe he's trying to escape. As long as they're not paint-covered bars, or something he can actually chew -through-, he should be fine. He's just a rodent, doing rodent things.

Rodents' teeth are constantly growing. They need something hard to gnaw on so their teeth wear down and don't grow so long that they can't eat. Chew toys won't do. They are too soft. If you don't provide a piece of hard wood or something, they gnaw on the cage bars.

Hamsters are rodents, their teeth never stop growing. They like to chew. All hamsters do that to their cages.

To keep his teeth from getting to large he has to somehow grind them down to a certain length. Which is why he probably likes to chew on everything. My rabits do the same thing. It's common in rodents.

Hamsters need to get their teeth filed down. They're constantly growing. And it hurts them. They're biting the bars when it's hot because their mouth won't get stuck to it, and they are relieving the pain from their teeth and trying to file them down.

Number one, he has plenty of time on his hands. Number two, it's hot out, and he's bored. And lastly, since hamsters spend 90% of their time plotting escape... he Wants OUT!!!
