for about 5 weeks now and I can't see any difference in my mood. I mean some days I can, but that just be me and not the medication. Should I switch to another antidepressant or just continue to take this one? I have heard Lexapro works pretty well for a lot of people.

I also have been getting bad headaches at night and I was wondering if this could be causing that.

The hallmark of a good antidepressant is that you do not realize it is working. You don't want to be taking something that makes you bouncing off the walls euphoric. You say some days you can feel a difference in your mood, but that is "just you" and not the medication? I contend it is "just you" because of the medication. A big problem with medications that address depression, anxiety, etc is that about the time they really start to kick in and start working, the patient believes they are feeling better so they don't need the medicine anymore. Or that it is not working at all because some days they feel out of sorts. Mistake. Keep taking your medicine as ordered...in the long run, you will be glad you did. As for the headaches...ask your doctor if that is a side effect. (Every medicine has a list of side effects as long as your arm, so it probably is listed) He will probably tell you to take a couple of Tylenol and keep you on your medicine. The benefits of your antidepressant far outweigh a slight headache.

Yes, the Lexapro is a source of headaches sometimes. I had the same problem you're having, but it was with Prozac. It would either not make a difference, or it would make me vicious and angry. I talked to my doc and switched to Lexapro, and that worked great. So definitely talk to the doctor about trying another prescription. If it's working, you'll notice a difference. Good luck.

I took Lexapro for depression and social anxiety, and it worked the same for me. Some days I couldn't tell the difference, and some days I wasn't nervous around people. Continue taking it for a few more weeks, and if it keeps having little effect, talk to your doctor about switching meds.

I took Lexapro before & I quit taking it because I wasn't seeing a difference...I say ask your doctor and see if maybe you just need a higher dose then you're on now & if you still don't see a difference in about two weeks (that's how long it usually takes to get in to you system) then I would suggest another medication like cymbalta....

If you are not noticing a difference and are getting headaches, call your doctor. There are lots of other choices of medication for you to take. You and your doctor need to find the right one for you, and it sounds like Lexapro is not it.

Lexapro did NOTHING for me..... tried it for like
3 MONTHS with no benefits or results... ask the doctor about EFFEXOR maybe... that seems to be the best one I've been on and trust me I have been on ALL OF EM..... alot of others seem to stand behind Effexor also..... be careful Doctors don't always care like they may want you to think... they may push the crummy new drug that costs like $1000.00 to bill insurances since that represents major profits... The doctor is just getting spoonfed the Medication Information from the Pharmacautucal Salesmen... how's that make you feel..?? the Salesmen is essentially ur Doctor.... kinda scarry... yikes....

I've also been having headache while taking Lexapro so I stop taking it all together. I'm currently taking Prozac and it's been working fine.

All I know is, please, don't do it by yourself. Be sure to talk about the different options with your doctor. Or look for a second opinion. The worst you could do in your condition, is decide for yourself. I wish you good luck.
