For the house: We did this for my husband: Buy a high quality canvas tarp and put whatever you like on it...we put the American Flag, the Army emblem, and welcome home. We kept that part basic. In one corner of the tarp we had his unit crest, his rank and the date of his deployment and return. The next time he was deployed, we used the same tarp, and added his unit and the date of the second deployment. Once he retires out of the military we plan to hang the tarp in his workshop/man room and set up a glory wall for all of his awards, medals, pictures, etc.

You might want to make one with a sheet and some paint. You could also cruise to the local hobby lobby if you have one to get some ideas. I'm sure he will appreicate any type of sign but more important he will be wanting to see you. Enjoy your reunion.

Put his name in big letters. I have returned from sea hundreds of times and it is hard to pick out your loved ones in a crowd. Seeing your own name in a crowd automatically locks your eyes.
Tell him what color to look for (avoid the usual red, go for BLUE, men's eyes are drawn to it.)

Just put "welcome home" and his name name next to it.

That way when he gets off the bus he will know where his family and friends are.
