And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Are you seriously going to try to redefine the word "today"?

Jesus died and went to Hades-Paradise, the place where the spirits of old covenant saints hung out until Jesus liberated them and took them to Heaven (following his resurrection).

In the story of Lazarus (the beggar) and the rich man, we find that Lazarus went to Abraham's bosom and the rich man went to Hades-Sheol where he was tormented for his sins.

The thief on the cross died and went to the same place that Lazarus went.

You should look up the story of "The rich man and the beggar." In Sheol there were two places, one of peace (called paradise) and one of torment between which there was a great divide. Jesus met the thief in the place of peace. What does it matter how long he was there?

Ain't it crazy how much difference a comma makes?

Before Jesus went to heaven, all the saints went to a place called paradise or Abraham's bosom. Forgive me if I do not have all the terminoligies correct here, but Hades has 3 compartments:

hell and paradise, and separating these 2 is a great chasm. I believe you can read about this in the story of Lazurus in Luke 16.

Jesus went to paradise when He died and preached 3 days to the sainst there about His fulfilling the Old Testament scriptures and prophecies and then led them to heaven. because the thief believed in Jesus he went to paradise.

No your absolutely right, i had the same question so i decided to look into it deep, as far as other kinds of old bibles and i found out that it was just a comma. When they translated the hebrew bible into english they missed placed a comma, A COMMA!!!. So this its what you read right?: 43And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.
Notice how the comma is right in between thee and Today. but the comma is supposed to be after Today so it could read:
43And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee today, shalt thou be with me in paradise.
So what it really says its that he is telling him today, that he will be with him in paradise (not today but in the future).

(and i apologize if i offend anyone, Thanks)

Jesus' body lay in the tomb for three days, but his human soul and his divine spirit were separated from his body at death, and free to travel ... just as Dismas' (the thief's) soul was separated from his dead body.

We know that Jesus' spiritual self went to paradise to free the souls of the just who had been detained there, in "the Busom of Abraham" ... awaiting Christ's atoning sacrifice ... so they could at last, be admitted to heaven.

Sounds like Dismas was mercifully included in this bunch as well ... just as Jesus promised.

Although the body of Jesus lay in the tomb for this period His spirit did not and this too was the case for the repentant thief, his body died but his spirit went to Heaven.

The body was dead three days. This does not mean Jesus was unconscious three days.

John 10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

You are forgetting that Jesus is God ,the Holy Spirit is God ,and God the Father is God.When Jesus said "Indeed i promise you, today you will be with ME in Paradise."ME" is also God the Holy Spirit. "ME" is also God the Father.Do you understand what i am saying.?Probably not .There are three Divine Persons in the one God (Holy Trinity).God the Father.God the Son.God the Holy Spirit..Each one is fully God.

He meant that he was talking to him that day, he didn't mean that he would be with him that same day.
