The Church had to find a way to 'controle' women, and what better way than through the holy book. Soooo... after some twisting of words when transalted... voila! the Men of the Church were scared of women. Women are very mystical and powerful to men. Just look at your own quote from Matthew... "gauge out your eye from lusting after a woman"? Wow... I am pretty powerful... and true Christian men should be blind by the time they are 19 years old. The Church was on a power trip when translating the bible back in King James' time. Why do you think they made reading illegal in some areas, dumbed down the people and then put them in churches for long periods of time, in uncomfortable pews and poking them with long poles to keep them awake. Power trip.

The answer should be obvious to anyone who reads these words. However, I have considerable difficulty believing these are the true words of God. Primarily men wrote the Bible, to suit their own needs and out of their own cultural prejudices. I chucked Christianity a long time ago, which btw, does NOT mean I do not believe in God or Jesus Christ. Read the Song of Solomon. I have read a very intelligent book that proves to me it was written by a woman. It is pure poetry, and gives the opposing viewpoint to all the crap which appears above. I believe the Catholic church had MUCH TOO MUCH to do with the hatred and damnation of women which I believe is profoundly NOT original to early Christianity. Do some research. Most of the early followers and financial supporters of Jesus were women householders, NOT men. Read the Gospel of Mary. Yeah, that one which was edited out of the Bible and called Apochryphal. The hatred and abuse of women is misogynist, hate-filled, ancient men's work, not God's edict or direction. Just one more reason I am a Wiccan High Priestess. Just one more reason I cannot and will not ever again accept the Bible as the word of any holy being. It's been edited and mistranslated by the hand of "man" to suit his own needs way too many damn times. End of story. You also have to see and to put the Bible and early Christianity into a historical and cultural context. Originally, the entire Middle East (and, in fact, most of the world) were Goddess worshiping. During early Christian times, there was a change of regime going on from polytheistic, Goddess-worshiping people to monotheistic, God-worshiping peoples, and like it is said, "He who wins gets to write the history books. We who are subjected either disappear, or write the rebel songs..." Guess I've got a brick in one hand, and a guitar in the other. Guess this all might be the reason I've never married and probably never will, either. Just call me a concious objector and a prisoner of conscience.

The answer to your question is yes. But there is a catch. Not just any man is head of woman. Only a man of God. If you are not a man of God, then you are not truly a man. Why? I'll tell you why. Genesis 1:26 says: "Then God said "Let us make man in OUR image, in OUR likeness...." In other words, if you do not have the characteristics of God, you cannot consider yourself a man; a male, but not a man. With that being said, the woman does not have to submit to you.

Yes according to the bible, women are suppose to be completely submissive to men....I think its a crock of crap! The bible was written by man. That is BLATANTLY OBVIOUS! I believe in God...but the bible is a farce! I know I'll get lots of thumbs down...but I really don't care! The bible has been translated too many times and been in the wrong hands too many times!
****EDIT****
Is it just me or...have you noticed that the asker came up with all these verses out of the bible showing what it says to be true...and the devout christian answerer's rebut with different scriptures and verses out of the bible....It seems to me that the bible CONSTANTLY contradicts itself! You say one verse and someone brings up another! It is the WORST book I have ever read! It doesn't make a flipping bit of sense and when you question the bible or christian beliefs to the church they cant answer them with a straight answer either! My grandmother believes she is a devout christian and when I was asking her simple questions about the beliefs the only thing she could come up with was " Well, you just have to believe, you are just wanting to be an atheist" WTF?! But yet she admited that if she was raised Muslim, she would be Muslim, and I have never had a preacher or other wise give me a good reason to believe ANY part of the bible, other than "You will go to hell" Ok so you wont explain in lamens terms your beliefs, because you cant, but your going to try and SCARE me into believing this crap?! Get a grip people! You are trying to SELL a religion to people, but you cant explain it to them without contradicting yourself throughout the entire conversation...Yeah OK have a nice day!

Taken in context (including temporal context) - the words are correct, but the connotation is incorrect. Its all about respect. Men and women are to respect each other in the utmost fashion - for a man, that is best shown by sacrificing his very life for his wife. For a woman, that is best shown by supporting the decisions of her husband. Like a man sacrificing his life, the wife is sacrificing her right to be in power over her husband.
Have you ever seen a houshold where the wife "wears the pants"? The husband usually is lazy, unwilling to take any risks for fear of his wife's wrath, unproductive for the household, in essence - NOT A MAN. The end result is that both husband and wife are MISERABLE!

What have your Mother did to You that you look up to all this verses. Or have You been recently dump?
Women as according to the Bible which You took the verses from randomly, indeed are subjected to the Men. Which Men? People like You? No, God forbid, to their Men only, not subjected to be bully or use of as slave or treated lower than Men. And there is a spiritual side of it.

Well you got all the verses....well most of them.
God called Eve Adams help meet.
Helper.
God set up a chain of command.
The man is responsible but not the master of the woman. Just as a vice president must follow the rules of the president the president , if he is a good one, seeks counsel from those under him.
My wife is my friend, helper, and sister in Christ. She is under me in the home but equal to me in Gods eyes. Women's pride today make it sound like slavery but my wife has free will too. She decides how our children are raised (with my help) She teaches Sunday school (molding young children for Christ)
You make yourself a slave by misunderstanding God.

you took a good question and then made a hard left from reality into la-la land. Pulling scripture out of context to make your point is the oldest trick out there. I could correct your mistakes, by putting all these quotes into context, but the person that needs to know the truth (you!) would learn nothing from it.

But the greatest command was on the Husband. Christ said he is to love the wife as Christ loved the church. He is not rule us like he is some master and we are the servant. I have never studied the part about the women covering their heads, so could not tell you much on that. A marriage is 100% both ways.

women are valued very highly in the Bible's teaching. In the very beginning, God created both man and woman in His own image with the responsibilities of populating the earth and ruling over it (Genesis 1:27-28).
The gospel narratives present many insights into Christ's valuation of women, emphasizing His high regard for them as essential members of God's kingdom. He understood their concerns (John 2:1-9), met their deepest needs (John, chapter 4; Mark 7:24-30), healed them (Luke 4:38-39, Matthew 9:20-22), raised their dead (Luke 7:11-15; John, chapter 11), forgave and restored them to meaningful existence (Luke 7:36-50, John 8:3-11), defended and affirmed their acts of service (Matthew 26:6-13), and instructed them (Luke 10:39). On the road to His crucifixion, Christ addressed the women of Jerusalem in His final word to the crowds, and on the cross, undergoing deep agony, He entrusted His mother Mary into the care of His beloved disciple John. Following His resurrection from the dead, the first person to whom Jesus revealed Himself was Mary Magdalene, a woman He had freed from severe satanic bondage (John 20:10-18).
The New Testament church was enriched by the influence of godly women such as Dorcas, Priscilla, and Lydia, to name a few. The apostle Paul wrote in Galatians 3:28, "There is neither Jew nor Greek [nationality, race], slave nor free [status], male nor female [gender], for you are all one in Christ Jesus." It is true that Bible interpreters and churches vary in their understanding of the proper role of women in the church and home regarding leadership. However, the issue is not about men's and women's equal worth to God and the church. All agree that in matters of salvation and value men and women are equal.
The devaluation of women in so many ways throughout history is a result of sin in the world. Wherever the Gospel has gone the status of women has been elevated. Through Christ, women have experienced the opportunity to live creative, productive, and satisfying lives. This transformation has led to far-reaching contributions by women in areas such as social and political reform, medicine, literature, the arts and sciences, and Christian service and missions.
