I am so annoyed by this at times. People will spell God with a capital "G" but gods with a lowercase "g." I find that disrespectful as I always spell God and Gods with capital G's. I feel that shows that the montheist God (depending on religion) are superior to polytheist Gods. I even notice polytheists when referring to the Christian Deity spell it with an uppercase "G" but when it comes to their own Gods, they do not give them the same courtesy. I was always taught to spell this way and feel that it is due to monotheism that polytheism is somewhat undermined in this way.
I am just curious as to what religious people think.

I myself am polytheist and Gods should be spelt with uppercase to show respect for Them. Also, to the misinformed people, God is a description and title. The Christian God has a name, he may not have revealed it to everyone but a name he has. The Gods I worship all have names. The reasoning behind capitalising the "G" is to show it is a word of importance.

Because many monotheists are deluded into thinking that YHVH's proper name is "God".
In short, they're too stupid to understand that "God" is a title, a noun. Not a proper noun.
The name of the deity is YHVH, or Yahweh, or Jehovah, or any of a number of other names, the one that ISN'T a name is the one word most of them attribute as his name.
I generally capitalize God and Gods.
Just like when writing about different Gods, I capitalize His, Him, Hers, Her, Their, They, and such.
The Christian God is not the only one deserving of such honorifics.

God is not a name, it's a descriptive. The christian god has a name. I believe it's Yahweh.
I always spell god(s) with a lower case "g," unless it's the first word of a sentence, because it's not a name, and I won't play along with the theistic game that there's only one god -- humans have created hundreds, if not thousands of gods.

It depends on what I am writing, who I am writing to. If I used gods collectivly as in what they are and not who they are, I tend to lowercase it. I use God, because that's his "proper name". I uppercase the first letter to everyone's name. Now that said I do NOT capitalize "h" in him. I think that is silly. I have argued so with an English teacher. I will NOT do it.
Now if I am writing something to another pagan, for whatever reason I do uppercase Gods, Them, She, and He. I have no idea why I do but I do LOL. I will usually uppercase the "g" in The Gods, but not gods in general. I know...I make no sense. But thank you for your respect. I appreciate it.

I always spell god with lower case.
As for preference I fully believe is is laziness Much easier to refer to one deity and not to get confused with all them gods Though the stories are better with many many gods

Religious people have a superiority complex because there religion teaches them that they are the chosen people and that all other religions are wrong. Talk about Tribalism, this alone proves that there religion is flawed because it was creted by human beings.

Bible Says to KILL ALL NON-BELIEVERS
"Whoever sacrifices to any god other than the LORD must be destroyed. (Exodus 22:20)
They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)

One is a proper name and the other is not. No academic writing would use "Deity" but only deity.

As far as "preferring" a monotheist God over polytheists Gods, that goes without saying. The pagans can worship as many Gods as they please, but the children of God know the truth concerning the existence of only him, and of his Christ, and of the Holy Ghost.
