"Teaching anything other than evolution to explain biodiversity is teaching religion. It requires that one deny not only findings in, but the very methods of, scientific endeavors as diverse as anthropology, genetics, biology, geology, physics, medicine, pharmaceuticals, and computer science."

FYI: Dr. Tarico is a former fundamentalist who realized that she could not find the Bible consistent with everything she was learning in college. Indeed, hardly anything she was learning in college. The subtitle of her book "The Dark Side" is "How Evangelical Teachings Corrupt Love and Truth." I recommend it.

AuntB, that is exactly the TRUTH of it. Evolution is NOT a matter of Faith. It is based on the derivation of a principle that is based ONLY on empirical EVIDENCE, what can actuall be seen, touched and measured. It makes NO assumptions abot an intelligent creator other than saying that THESE are the rules by which that Creator established the universe and, based on those rules, this is how things appear to work, and to have worked in the past, and will continue to work into the future. "God" by very definition has taken himself OUT of the equation, deliberately, by his(her) very nature. Science gives NO reason for that either and is unable to examine that, as well.
The Bibleans refuse to see and understand that aspect of Science and merely view Science as just another "false Religion" and refuse to consider that Scientists just MAY be closer to God than even THEY consider. Scientists are unencumbered by the "Dogma of the Bible" and therefore, get to actually examine HOW God went, and continues to go about the business of creation. Science is NOT concerned with the WHY's, simply the HOW's things work as they do. And THAT drives the Bibleans absolutely NUTS about them. The Bibleans c arrived at the story and try to make the facts fit the story. Scientists discover as many of the facts and then try to determine what story the FACTS are telling them. Tow totally different things and diametrically opposed to one another. One is Faith the other is Truth (relative to the amount of available information). One will NEVER be changed, the other will change as more and more information becomes available.
Maybe, as more and more information becomes available, Science MAY find that things DID occur according to the Bible, but THAT will be based entirely upon empirical evidence and NOT upon dogmatic statements by Religious authorities. However, Religious authority will never be able to change it's views, based on facts because facts and Faith do NOT coincide. Bibleans are stuck in a quandry, They base their creation story on a book that NEVER actually truly existed until the 16th century AD. Was put togather from an odd collection of writings by obscure authors who ALL claimed to be in communictaion with some unseen being who, for some unexplained reson, has refused to reveal that story direrctly to EVERY person on the Earth.
Bibleans refuse to examine that aspect of their book. In fact, they consider it to be an act of rebellion and a sin to even consider that the book just MIGHT be in error. The History of the compilation of that book is irelevant to them, and the idea that it WAS a hodge podge of stories that was innaccurately pieced together simply does not enter into their equation. By ignoring the FACTS they do themselves and their belief system a grave injustice and foist that injustice upon the entire membership of their collective Religions.

Wrong.
Evolution theory has no bearing on the study of different branches of science. For example, in medicine you study the cause of a disease and try to find out how the condition can be reversed. Where is evolution in all this? The only role I can see an evolutionist playing here is to wonder why the bacteria, viruses are still replicating after million of years of supposed evolution while some of them became scientists, professors etc.!
Why are evolutionists so bent on pushing their theory down everybody's throat (that is what they accuse religionists of) when it is just an interpretation of their findings which cannot be replicated?

100% rejection of evolution is promoted and enforced by the scientific community through peer pressure. Any scientist that acknowledges intelligent design will have to face the consequences from this profession. Any study that indicates that we are far different from apes is not acknowledged as an argument against evolution.

Creationists don't seem to understand that almost all scientists LOVE to prove one another wrong--they examine the theories of their colleagues in extremely minute detail--and if they find things wrong, they take great pride in pointing it out and publishing their findings with great fanfare.
It seems silly to think that they are all in on a secret conspiracy theory and doing all they can to make sure a shaky theory is not challenged or questioned. Science is based on questioning EVERYTHING.

She has a good point.
Why do creationists get so annoyed when scientists point out that creationism isn't scientific? It is a religious belief. End of story.

I think that approach in and of its self is very exclusive and retarding of what science truly expects from people. Science expects people to use carefull criteria to learn .. yet to take a theory such as evolution and limit any challenge to it is quite sheltering I think. Evolution doesnt work. Its hypothesis have not been concluded .... we need to be honest about it.
My thoughts about someone making this statement is that they fear having all they want to believe, being done away with, leaving them empty with no meaning to life from their perspective. I dont beleive in evolution and I am not threatened by science's findings nor do I loose hope

That's about right.
The problem is, though, that the people who need to read and think about this quote -- won't. As soon as they perceive it to be a pro-evolution concept, they'll shut down and brush it off with one of their fundamentalist rationalizations: Oh, those scientists are smart and all, but they don't have Gawd-given common sense." or "Men's wisdom is foolish to Gawd" or something else.
Too bad for them: it's a great quote.

It is fine with me but what's Her conclusion? Only leads to further question and does not fulfill the soul. So where do she goes from here? Probably end up a Christian.
