Yes there was an episode of seinfeld like that. I have not vomited since I was ten. I am now 24. I would much rather just do it and not be afraid of it and be normal

I also have emetophobia. I am like you, it does not affect me everyday. I try not to think about it and this seems to help most of the time. I am not around sick people very often so the anxiety about someone else getting sick is minimal. I think feeling in control helps me most of the time. I hope you are managing OK. Best Wishes

I do not, but have known a few women (and maybe one or two men) who are so bothered by the idea of vomiting, they have managed to NOT vomit for 10, 12, or 20 yrs.

How do you do that?
As I told one friend, it's surely better to go ahead and vomit rather than experience that awful nausea for hours upon hours!
Come to think of it, didn't they have a show where Jerry Seinfeld said he had avoided throwing up for a decade or more?

It's not common, but not too unusual either.
I don't know how you can overcome it! My best advice was as above, gosh just let it happen if you feel terribly nauseated.

Well, if it bothers you this much, maybe you do need to see a therapist. The point would be to figure out why you have such fear; perhaps it was a very stressful or traumatic time for you when you were last ill and vomiting.
Good luck.

Do you mean you go around every day afraid you are going to vomit? Do you have any history of a physical problem that might make you do that?

Have you gone to a doctor for this?

My wife has this, and it's was quite funny before we had children. oddly enough after we had our first child she no longer had this problem. I think that for the most part it's psychological and can be overcome simply by breathing techniques' and trying not to think about.
Or i guess just have children.
