Hong Kong is an entertaining city, but not that unique to the "west". For an English speaking foreigner, HK is very easy...nearly everyone speaks English and travel by ferry or MTR is extremely easy! Hong Kong is unique to Asia because it left British rule only 10 years ago, so it's very western with a bit of an Asian twist to it. As another source noted, you could spend about 3-4 days in HK. Macau, the Peak, Big Buddha, Kowloon, Nathan Rd., and the islands are among the highlights. I've been to London as well and in comparison, HK is very affordable. I spent about 400hkd per day ($53...27pounds) for eating, traveling, and the basics. This number excludes hotel and airfare, but hopefully will give you a ballpark figure for spending allowance. All in all...my recommendation is that if you are willing to spend the money for airfare to HK at least travel around Asia a bit (maybe Beijing, Shanghi, Thailand). If you are only going to HK, I would save the money. If you have any further questions let me know! Thanks and good luck.

I have been twice to HK. There is a real Buzz about it. The entertainmnet can be found just standing on the corner watching people. There are thousands of eateries of all sorts and prices. The Star Ferry to HK Island is cheap and a great way to view the Harbour. Take a trip at night time and see the Neon display. The street markets off Nathan Road, Kowloon are well worth a visit as is Nathan Road itself. I found it a great place for a three or four day visit. You can, if you wish go on a ferry to Macow, or get a visa and go into China on an organised visit. I saw no trouble, no drunks or bad behaviour all the time I was there. Have a great time. Dee Cee

from London use Oasis Hong Kong airline (could e ab £350 return depending when u want to go) then choose a hotel a little away from Kowloon or HK Island - say Silvermine each on Lantau. You should last a month!

If you want to exit into Hong Kong, that will be funny. 1200lbs, depending how you spend it. Can spend it in one week, or three months, up to you.
